Her job puts her at odds with Sergeant Amarok, who is convinced that Hanover is a threat to his community...even as his attraction to beautiful Evelyn threatens to tear his world apart. BEGINS WITH AN ESCAPE FROM HER PAST Then, just as the bitter Alaskan winter cuts both town and prison off from the outside world, the mutilated body of a local woman turns up. For Amarok, this is the final proof he needs: Hanover has to go. Evelyn, though, has reason to fear that the crime is a personal message to herthe first sign that the killer who haunts her dreams has found her again. . .and that the life she has so carefully rebuilt will never be the same... If you like psychological thrillers, this book would be one you would like. I had difficulty putting it down. The characters are different, as one would expect of people who study serial killers. Isolation is the norm in much of Alaska. I wasn‘t sure how it would end. I love a good mystery and this one filled with moments that were somewhat shocking.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The second book in the Evelyn Talbot series is very good. It kept me hooked through the whole book. I cannot wait to begin the 3rd book.

Body parts have shown up and the victims are linked to Hanover House. Evelyn worries that her life may be in danger and needs to figure out who the killer is and why these deaths have happened.

Psychiatrist, Evelyn Talbot, has set up a special prison is Alaska to house and study the country‘s worst serial killers. Her life is dedicated to learning how their mind works after being attacked by her high school boyfriend and being left for dead. In this remote setting employees of the prison start to turn up dead. Is he back?
A multitude of serial killers, isolated setting, and the possibility for romance make for a good read.

CoffeeK8 Sounds fascinating 6y

I think I'm in a reading slump again.
It sucks, but I think I need to stop forcing myself to read at this point. I know it won't last forever, but it makes me sad.
So, time to do other things! Like gaming. 🖤

I recommend you read the Pre-quel Hanover House, before this book, that way you will know the back story. This is a book that contains corruption, murder and romance. Part of a mutilated body is found outside a bar in a small Alaskan town. Dr. Talbot thinks it is from her boyfriend that toutored her and left her for dead, when she was 16. The ending did kind of let me down, with the first part being so good. I still recommend it, though. 4⭐.

Enjoy the first half where the suspense are built but then my mood plummet. Eve kept repeating the same thing again yet she‘s kept enticing Amarok. She still let Jasper run her life. Jasper seems more like the mc than Amarok. The suspense is good but Evelyn?? Stupid and reckless in some way. Kind of disappointed with this 📚 #brendanovak #romanticsuspense

Alright, I fell asleep listening to this and had nightmares that brought me out of my sleep gasping. I've been sitting her for 15 mins thinking about them and our doors. Geeezus, they were vivid. At one point I saw a man with a tattoo on the back of his head that said "murder at 1717" or 1617. F$&king freaks me out! #litsypartyofone now needs company

Jinjer Yikes!!!😳😬We are all here with ya!!!! 8y
Jinjer Must be a nightmare kinda night cuz I woke up with a start thinking I had gone back home to L.A. leaving my poor 90-yo mother in Arkansas to fend for herself! In the dream I called to check on her & she'd tried to go grocery shopping by herself with her walker & of course it was impossible so I was trying to get a flight back here before she starved to death or died from the fright of being alone & helpless!😳😬😳 8y
mjdowens These are such horrible dreams😲. Sorry you even had to remember them. 8y

LiteraryinPA Oh no! It's all a dream! 8y
kelseynicburke I had a nightmare too! I was walking down the street collecting sea glass (which I realize makes zero sense) and a plane crashed right in front of me 8y
JoeStalksBeck @mjdowens oh man it felt like the dream lasted forever! I remember a broken door and a giant wrench. A BnB that gave me the feeling something bad was about to happen. A baby boy named Owen Joshua. Absurdly strange things. Oh and a giant of a man running at me from one of the bedrooms 8y

JoeStalksBeck @mjdowens @LiteraryinLititz @kelseynicburke @jinjer the tatto was on a guys head that was laying in the floor dead but it was also him standing by the broken door with the wrench. 8y
kelseynicburke @JoeStalksBeck That sounds terrifying! My dreams are crazy too. It probably has something to do with all the reading, our brains have weirder stuff than most 8y
JoeStalksBeck @kelseynicburke oh it's still clear in my mind right now. I am sure it is all the reading lol! But dang!! That is the worst dream I've had in a very long time. Some parts were running like an 8mm. All scratchy and jumpy. Ugh . Damn you brain lol 8y
Miznanner I suggest lorazepam...that is what I finally resorted to last night after 3 nights of bizarre dreams---all medically based (I had a transfusion earlier this week) and involving being lost in old empty hospitals with lots of ancient medical equipment and flickering lights. Felt like I was in a bad episode of Ghost Hunters "Did you see that?" "There! A shape in the doorway!!" What is going on with all of us??? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Miznanner I don't have anything to help me sleep😕 I don't sleep well to begin with. Yikes! That sounds like a terrifying dream! 😱 yeah, especially flicking lights! That is just a nope 8y
Miznanner @joestalksbeck Try warm milk or red wine..they both work too! Yeah- the flickering lights (with that crackle noise) send me over the edge! And PS: what is #litsypartyofone ? Sounds intriguing. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Miznanner it's a reading party that @Ambrosnazzy sets up for us. We stay up , eat snacks, post what we are reading to each other with the tag #litsypartyofone. It's lots of fun. I had date night last night with the hubby so I missed last night but will be up tonight for the several readathons that are going on this weekend. Check my page for the posts I did a couple days ago on who to follow ❤️📖 8y
Miznanner @JoeStalksBeck Thank you! So how does one become a Litten???? And if I do, do I get one of those adorable kitten stickers??? 8y

I got the middle camera for Christmas. 💖
Collecting books, cameras and photographs is kinda my thing.
Also, after looking at this I'm thinking maybe the black camera should be in the middle. Or on top so the other camera doesn't blend in with the books. Agh. I don't know.

BookishMarginalia Top. Definitely. 😉 8y
pocketmermaid I have that Instax camera and a Polaroid printer (not the camera). I love them! My Instax is purple. Your shelf looks so pleasing, now I kind of want to display mine on my bookshelf! 8y

My #booksandfood photo makes me think of that song "On top of spaghetti all covered with cheese I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed.."

Texreader Looks yummy...but um, that song. I've made up so many funny lines to it for the kiddos. 8y
GardenJess Yum, looks tasty! I used to sing that song to my parents over and over as a kid, lol. It's a wonder they still@fed me spaghetti! 8y
Dragon Thanks @Texreader @GardenJess I sang the song at work and one of my colleagues had an extra verse I'd never heard. 8y

Such a good start to a series, some gruesome parts and some sexy times that I'm not really a fan of, but apart from that, it's a thumbs up from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ :)
