Alone in the Wild
Alone in the Wild: A Rockton Novel | Kelley Armstrong
23 posts | 19 read | 2 to read
In #1 New York Times bestseller Kelley Armstrong's latest thriller, the hidden town of Rockton is about to face a challenge none of them saw coming: a baby. Every season in Rockton seems to bring a new challenge. At least that's what Detective Casey Duncan has felt since she decided to call this place home. Between all the secretive residents, the sometimes-hostile settlers outside, and the surrounding wilderness, there's always something to worry about. While on a much needed camping vacation with her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, Casey hears a baby crying in the woods. The sound leads them to a tragic scene: a woman buried under the snow, murdered, a baby still alive in her arms. A town that doesnt let anyone in under the age of eighteen, Rockton must take care of its youngest resident yet while solving another murder and finding out where the baby came from - and whether she's better off where she is. #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong again delivers an engaging, tense thriller set in perhaps the most interesting town in all of contemporary crime fiction.

Finished Book 5 of the Rockton Series. A baby is found under a dead woman in the snow. Now they have to find the parents. I love the characters here. A town where criminals or people running away from something come to live for 2 years. I found 2 bingo spots for #ISpyBingoMay. @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks #ReadAway24 #SeriesLove24 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES

Well, devoured the next one in the Rockton Series. There's a number of characters and connections to keep track of between Rockton, the Settlers (encampment 1 & 2), and the Hostiles.
I like how this plot brought up things for Casey & Eric both separately and as issues to work on together.
The backdrop of winter solstice is interesting - the darkest time of year from which point the sun starts regaining its strength.

Continuing from my last post, the couple now found out that the dead woman was not the baby‘s mother. Another problem they encountered is that Rockton, the town they live in, didn‘t have any materials for a person to take care of a baby. Luckily, they had friend that knew how to take care of a baby. They then move to the next town to try and find the baby‘s father or family. A possible theme is to return items you do not own.

Keshawn.Ravelas The couple refuse to adopt the baby. They were told multiple times to keep the baby, but still committed to find its parents. If you like books that contain mystery, you would like this book. 2y
MissYaremcio Intersting plot! Thank you for the review Keshawn! This post was on POV and so your mark is 4/6 2y

The story starts off with a couple who were out camping in Rockton, Yukon. Casey and her dog, Storm, go searching for kindling when she encountered a dead body. In the body, she found a baby, unsure of its age. She then takes the baby to her campsite to nurture it and make sure it‘s healthy. After, her and her husband Dalton head back to Rockton with the dead body to investigate. In the mean time they try to find out how to take care of the baby.

Keshawn.Ravelas A potential theme for the novel is to step out if your comfort zone. If you like mystery, I think you would like this book. 3y
MissYaremcio Oh that sounds terrifying!! But good! Nicely done Keyshawn! 6/6 3y

This fifth installment in the Rockton series just might be my favorite yet! Set six months after the close of the fourth book, it opens with Casey & Dalton away on a romantic camping trip- only to stumble upon a corpse and a newborn baby! The plot is more straightforward than some of the others but this allows for more character development and more detail about those not living inside Rockton‘s limits! I couldn‘t put it down! Ready to read more!

Crazeedi I 💗💗 your owl! 4y
TorieStorieS @Crazeedi Thanks so much!! My husband got it for me a few Christmases ago! It seasonally migrates around our house now! 🤣 4y

In the latest Stockton adventure, Casey finds a baby and a dead woman in the woods, with foul play suggested. Most of this book takes place outside of town. I really like this series and find it unique and solid. I look forward to the next installment!

Chrissyreadit This series is new to me- and sounds like something I would love. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awww 🐶❤️ 5y
Hooked_on_books @Chrissyreadit It‘s such a unique premise. Basically, there‘s this town in the northern Yukon and people there can only be there for a certain length of time and they‘ve typically had their lives threatened. The first book sets things up really well, and I would start there if you‘re interested in the series. (edited) 5y
Chrissyreadit I just stacked the first one! I may get it if I catch up with my other reading! 5y

I've been trying to limit my caffeine intake to only one mug of caffeinated tea a day (then I switch to herbal). But some days just call for a bigger mug, and today needs the BIGGEST.

TheAromaofBooks Love your mug! Are you a Buckeye? 5y
TheKidUpstairs @TheAromaofBooks thanks! I am not, I'm in Ontario. The mug was a gift from @TK421 in a swap I hosted a couple years ago 😁 5y

Rockton would actually be the perfect place to be right now. Talk about social distancing!

Glad the cold cold rain stopped so we can enjoy some time in the backyard. It makes a huge difference when I can spend part of my day outdoors.

MaleficentBookDragon Even before all this I thought Rockton would be a good place to live for a while. As long as I could have as many books as I wanted to that is. 5y

I powered through to get this back to the library yesterday & as usual I‘m sorry to leave Rockton. I really enjoy this series, the characters & the hidden community in the Yukon. I love that we got more insight on the hostiles & settlements when Casey finds a dead woman holding a still alive baby when she & Dalton are camping. Great addition to the series-my only complaint is that I rushed through it & have to wait so long until book 6 comes out.

Normally a Saturday at 10:30 AM at Barnes & Noble Cafe is packed & you jockey for a table but I had my pick & I‘m in the corner trying to jam through this book before I have to return it to the library today. The whole mall is quiet. I don‘t blame people for staying away & social distancing. I wouldn‘t be here except that I have a salon visit for cut & highlights at Aveda upstairs that I‘m not willing to miss. #signofthetimes

Lovesbooks87 When I went to my local Barnes & Noble today one of the booksellers told me that they have been very slow this week and their sales have been really low! Kind of makes me sad but I understand why people haven‘t wanted to go out! 5y
DebinHawaii @Lovesbooks87 Yes, I‘m going to buy something before I leave. I feel a bit guilty sitting here reading a library book. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

Man I really love this series. I love Casey as a character and how she grows in each book. Honestly all the characters are interesting and always have me excited to greet them when a new book in the series comes out. Can‘t wait for the next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hooked_on_books My hold for this one is on the way! I love this series, too, and I‘m glad she‘s been able to keep it so strong, which doesn‘t always happen. She‘s a good writer. 5y

Love this series! Casey and Eric go camping and Casey finds a baby in the snow next to a dead woman. It gives Armstrong the perfect vehicle to provide readers a closer look at the First Settlement, Second Settlement, and hostile (wild people) communities and their connections to Rockton. Loved the characters and the interactions between them all. Each book adds another layer to Armstrong‘s world building. Looking forward to the next book!

This soup was quick & simple to make & so I did no real #audiosouping today. It‘s Nigel Slater‘s Simple Thai Noodle Soup—homemade yellow curry paste, coconut milk & lots of shrimp & rice noodles. 😋🍲💛 Link to recipe👇🏻

I picked up the newly out Book 5 in the Rockton series yesterday & I want to put everything else down & read it but I have some reading for upcoming book tours to do so I have to sneak it in here & there. #readerproblems 📚😬📚
