I am so disappointed. I liked how the synopsis made the book seem, and then I read it. Two stars ⭐️ and both of them are for the only character with any sense and who holds my entire heart: Ishraq.

Finished my #bookspin while killing time before work, and to be honest I didn‘t like it. I‘ve enjoyed most of Gregory‘s other work, but this was a huge disappointment for me. Also, the character of Freize was annoying and rather sexist in my opinion. ⭐️⭐️

TheAromaofBooks Always sad when an author you enjoy writes a dud. 😕 14mo

This was a great start to a series. Not the usual fantasy. @PuddleJumper #roll100 #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks #thesupernaturalyear changeling @AkashaVampie

During my first hiatus back in September/October I binged the Order of Darkness series by Philippa Gregory. The first book is Changeling but I was able to get bind up with books 1-3 a few years ago and then just never picked up a copy of the final book, Dark tracks.

While this series is not Gregory‘s best work I still enjoyed my time in this world and she is still one of my favorite authors of all time.

A couple young adult medieval 🏰 novels of Philippa Gregory‘s to try.

Love love the show Merlin 🧙‍♂️; sad it no longer runs. It was a good wholesome show, featuring the friendship between Merlin and King Arthur!

Cinfhen I really dislike YA but maybe I should give this one a try 🤔 4y
CrowCAH @Cinfhen I‘m going to give these a try, because I tried reading her Wideacre book and had to DNF for content purposes. I really want to like Gregory; my sister loves her Tudor books. 4y

Picked these beauties up today!

I tried Gregory‘s Wideacre novel and couldn‘t stomach the content, so I gave her up for lost. But when I spotted these and read the back cover, well, I think they‘ll redeem Gregory for me. Can‘t wait to give these a go!

Birdsong28 I love Philippa Gregory and even I found Wideacre a bit hard to swallow but it was her first novel so it will be a bit rough as her writing style hadn't been perfected but the rest of the series is good. It was a bit of shock as I had read her Tudor novels first and they were so good so I could tell the difference. I haven't read these as they are her YA series. Enjoy 😁📚📖 6y
Cheshirecat913 I saw these the other day and was tempted. 6y
CrowCAH @Birdsong28 good to know I wasn‘t the only one. I really want to like her work. My younger sister loves the Tudor books, so I‘m trying these books for her, so we can geek out about Gregory! 6y

For Philippa Gregory this somehow is not as great as her other historical fiction. Luca was an interesting and inquisitive man in Church, but the main star is of course Lady Abbess, who is the suspect/ victim in the book.
I like it, but not as much.

Just finished book 1, so I am counting each book as a separate one. I love the fact that the adventures so far are disputing religious “mysteries” by solving the mysteries to be explainable events. You have to put yourself into the 15th century mindset and remember that most everything was explained as God willed or due to sin.

This turned out to be a bit of an ordeal to get through. The storyline felt completely weak and disjointed, especially towards the end when it took a very unbelievable route that seemed completely unrelated to the rest of the story. I was hoping to finish the series before seeing Philippa Gregory talk but I don‘t know if I can do that to myself. #changeling #philippagregory #orderofdarkness

In preparation for seeing Philippa Gregory talk as part of her Dark Tracks tour at the start of February, I have begun my quest to read the first 3 instalments of the Order of Darkness series. I am a massive fan of her Tudor/War of the Roses series‘ so I am looking forward to finding out how her own stories compare to her historical fiction #Philippagregory #Darktracks #Orderofdarkness #Changeling #Stormbringers #Foolsgold #Sheffield

Anyone read this? It's been recommended to me but only has a 25% pick rating here on Litsy. 🤔 😕

mjdowens I love Phillipa Gregory. I have looked into this one a couple of times, but not sure if this one is interesting enough for me. 7y
Bookworm-Bobbie @mjdowens ooh ok, which ones would you recommend? 7y
mjdowens I also have her new one to read yet 7y

I shall use this one for multiple challenges. #seductiveshakespeare - #puck according to all tales, is one of the more powerful fae. This book is about a supernatural being, quite probably of the fae family . @jenniferw8

#septembowie challenge, the main character truly embodies #rebelrebel . @Cinfhen & @Marchpane

#fallintobooks challenge - few books in my collection which have any #cursive on them. @RealLifeReading

Cinfhen Well played 🙌🏻#multitasking 7y

I love Gregory's historical fiction (despite the heavy romance angle she takes), but this one was kind of flat. It's the first in a series, so it might pick up, but it's not to her usual level of storytelling.
