1️⃣ Visited the MLK Jr National Historic Site today, which includes both his birth home and Ebenezer Baptist Church. We read some of his speeches this morning before visiting. 💙💙

BellaBookNook I must have this!!!! 6y
Nute @BellaBookNook I return to this book over and over again to be uplifted and mesmerized by his words. He humbles my entire being! 6y

Day 18 - Inheritance: How can there be pages and speeches filled with words like these and so little progress? How could someone want to give us such a hope and yet such great despair remains? How could the inheritance of such wisdom be so far out-of-reach? Where do we go from here?
#ReadingResolutions

Ruthiella Great interpretation of this prompt! 6y
Nute @Ruthiella Right on! 6y
wanderlustforwords After reading The Ex-Colored Man and The Souls of black people earlier this year, I was confronted with my own ignorance and prejudices. How can I know and understand so little about what black people suffer daily in the US? MLK jr inspires beyond race. For many that are trapped with disability, sexual orientation etc. I wish there was another powerful leader to awake in us the injustice of discrimination and inspire us to force change! 6y

Nute @wanderlustforwords Yes! An inspiration beyond race. For all situations of inequality and prejudices. That is why the Civil Rights Movement spoke for so many peoples. We need a new beacon for today‘s times. 6y
wanderlustforwords @Nute Kimberly I couldn‘t agree more, and now that Obama has gone it seems the times are darker still. 6y

It was great to re-read my anniversary edition today. Such a simple speech, but so powerful, and there is much more to it then just the I Have a Dream section that is often quoted.

Gezemice What a great idea. I don‘t think I have ever read the whole thing. 6y

I‘m old enough to have the 30th anniversary edition on my shelf instead of the tagged edition. I‘ll be re-reading mine later tonight.

And this year when Martin Luther King Jr Day falls on his actual birthday, I think I‘ll start Black History Month early, similar to leap year, to make up for all those days that are shorted every other February.

And of course the penultimate #dream quote. I‘m sure this one will be getting a lot of love today on #quotsyNov17

Thank you for your earlier MLK post @BookishMarginalia . When I saw it, I remembered seeing this earlier this year and posting in my FB feed. I thought you might like it as well. Such a powerful image and one I cling to these days, to remind myself that good will always triumph as long as we don't let evil win. #teachersofLitsy
