Recently back from Afghanistan, Larkin is struggling with PTSD and her best friend‘s death, which she feels she caused. I‘m Civil War days, circumstances lead Emily to enlist as a man and fight for the Union. I wasn‘t excited about this book because I hate the cover, but it‘s both a hoo-rah depiction of some badass women and an excellent exploration of the potential consequences of war. Highly recommend!

I stayed up way too late last night to finish this one. It was completely worth it. It is a bit of a love letter to women veterans, and honestly to all women who want to be seen as equal in value to a man. I loved it and highly recommend this one. It is an emotional journey though for sure. I did appreciate the non-white washed history as well.

This is a good book to read during Memorial Day. It is just one example of why we need to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. I hope that one day humanity evolves beyond needing war to solve problems.

An emotional look at women in the military, past and present. Emily is driven to disguise herself as a man to serve along side her brother during the Civil War. Larkin is a veteran learning to live again as a civilian after 2 deployments to Afghanistan. Through Emily's diary, Larkin begins to cope with her PTSD and finds a way to enjoy life again. Thoroughly researched, Estes brings to life some "badass" women whose stories deserve telling. ??

I have two ARCs due tomorrow and a library book due sometime this week. I try to finish all my ARCs before publication but I‘m cutting it real close with these. I may be able to finish one but I‘m not sure about the other. Hopefully spending some time in my favorite reading spot will help things along. I‘m really enjoying the tagged book. #netgalley

I‘m not getting through the book as quickly as I had hoped this weekend but I‘m enjoying it. I was planning on spending the entire day today and tomorrow in my hammock but if it‘s as hot today as it was yesterday, then that‘s going to be a no. #netgalley #arc This handsome dude‘s ears are slowly starting to heal. My new foster Jack is on steroids for his skin and ear infection so he needs lots of potty breaks. The skeeters are eating me alive. I‘m enjoying this novel though. I like how it skips back and forth between two different time frames. #netgalley #reviewathon

I got my first ever #litsylove today! Thank you so much! I will try my best to answer this weekend but sadly I won‘t have all those cute stickers.

TheAromaofBooks You'll find that #LitsyLove is a GREAT excuse for investing in things like adorable stickers, washi tape, and stationery :-D 5y

Once again, I couldn‘t control myself and have way too many ARCs I‘m trying to finish before their publishing dates. Only one chapter in, but I‘m liking the writing style so far. While sometimes I love beautiful writing (like When Breath Becomes Air), for Stories like these I like it straightforward to not distract from the story. #netgalley #reviewathon Our new foster is adorable and I‘m glad we finally have one that plays with my dog. #foster 💕
