Imogen Waterstone has always prided herself on being a thoroughly independent young woman, but now she needs a man of implacable will and nerves of iron. That's why she invited Matthias Marshall, infamous Earl of Colchester, to her home in Upper Strickland. Who better than the legendary explorer to help her lay the perfect trap? Her scheme is simple, really: She plans to let it be known that when she inherited her uncle's collection of antiquities, she also inherited a map to a fabulous ancient treasure. She's sure that her enemy would risk financial ruin in pursuit of the mythical artifact. And to make doubly sure the scoundrel took the bait, she wants Colchester to pretend that he's out to seduce Imogene so that he, too, could get his hands on her map. Yet in all of her plotting, Imogene never anticipates Colchester's violent reaction to her request or her own electrifying reaction to him. Neither does she expect that a malevolent threat would emerge from the labyrinth of London--sinister enough to endanger her and Colchester's lives. From the Paperback edition.

Pickpick

This book was between a so-so and a pick. It wasn't quite what I was hopkng for at the moment. The main character could be annoyingly obtuse at times and there was several times that I felt certain phrases were overused. Otherwise the story was pretty good and I did enjoy the mystery. #audiobook #scribd #historicalfiction #historicalmystery #romantsy

I'm enjoying my current #audiobook but I suddenly had the urge for something with a little intrigue and a lot of romance. I have always meant to read a book by this author but always chose a different one. The synopsis of this one caught my attention this time around. #scribd #historicalromance #romantsy #romance

I had to say goodbye to Mischief this morning. She was 6 weeks away from her 18th birthday.
When I moved out on my own I spent one night in my new apartment and couldn't stand being alone, so I went to the shelter the next day and Mischief chose me.
She's been there with me through 2 marriages and a divorce, she was there when I brought home each of my daughters, she moved with me across the country and back. I'm really going to miss her.

Joybishoptx Mischief sounds like a loyal feline. I'm sorry for your loss. 7y

coffeenebula 😔 Sorry to hear about this. We just lost our two kitties this late summer/fall and it is so, so hard. (edited) 7y
shendrix413 @coffeenebula It's been very hard, I told my husband I felt silly being so upset and he was like, but you lost your companion of 18 years it makes sense to be so upset, you had her longer than me! That made me feel better, as well as everyone's kind words and well wishes. 7y
Smrloomis Sorry about your kitty 😢 I must agree with your husband! It‘s bound to be a little tough. 7y

As I was reading this I frequently asked myself what in the hell I was reading. It was all over the place and the relationship between the two main characters felt forced and contrived. The leading lady came across as a bumbling idiot that needed to be cosseted and humoured. The story was just not to my taste at all.

My #funfridayphoto has to feature Jayne Ann Krentz / Amanda Quick / Jayne Castle. She's the first "adult" author I read as a kid, and I still read to this day. Romance, adventure, sometimes a dash of the paranormal, and always a happy ending. ????

BookishMarginalia I read her stuff (under all 3 names) compulsively as a teen. So fun! 8y
