A Season for Second Chances
A Season for Second Chances | Jenny Bayliss
16 posts | 16 read | 10 to read
A restauranteur in need of a fresh start becomes a house-sitter in a seaside town where she finds herself butting heads with a gruff but handsome local, in this charming new seasonal novel from the author of The Twelve Dates of Christmas. Annie Sharpes spark for life has fizzled out. Her kids are grown up, her restaurant is doing just fine on its own, and her twenty-six-year marriage has come to an unceremonious end. Untethered for the first time in her adult life, Annie doesn't know what to do with herself. But when she finds a winter guardian position in a historic seaside home, she decides to leave her city life behind for a brand new beginning. When she arrives at Willow Bay, Annie is instantly enamored by the charming house, the invigorating sea breeze, and the towns rich seasonal traditions. Not to mention, her neighbors receive her with open armsthat is, all except for the surly and rugged nephew of the homeowner, who seems intent on making Annie feel unwelcome. His grand plans for the property are directly at odds with her long-term stay. As Christmas approaches, tensions and tides rise in Willow Bay, and Annies future is looking less and less certain. But with a little can-do spirit and holiday magic, the most difficult season of her life will become A Season for Second Chances.

This one wasn‘t so much a Christmas book (though they do celebrate Christmas), Annie walks in on her husband having sex with another woman. She decides to leave him and finds this seaside town to be a guardian and finds friends and a new passion. I really liked this one.

#snowedin #bookspin #hollyjollyreaders #wintergames Will do other tags later!

TheAromaofBooks I'm reading another of Bayliss's books right now. It has a similar “close to Christmas but not exactly Christmasy“ vibe 11mo

Another #SnowedIn finish. This is a light pick. There were parts that I enjoyed and a few that annoyed me and it was a bit too long for my taste. Annie is finally fed up with her cheating spouse and finds a place to reset.

#WinterGames 26 pts Also good choice for word search points.

This was the perfect December read, light and romantic. It has all the usual things in it; city girl ( successful chef) needs change, temporary lodgings elsewhere ( by the sea), immediately fits into new locale, a book club, a pop up café, an eligible Scottish bachelor, ex pleads case and miscommunications galore.

I bought this last year to read before Christmas and ran out of time and put it away for this year (and totally forgot about it as one does). Thank goodness I stuck to my list of finishing the tree, getting the holiday Lego out and doing the last bit of decorating because I found it! Now I have something to read once I decide on what cookies to bake.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘m ready for an extended vacation in Willow Bay, where I can grab a coffee and treat from Saltwater Nook, join their feisty book club, and participate in all the fun holiday festivities! This is a rom-com that‘s actually funny, overflowing with coziness and charm. It was a lovely listen for the fall/winter season! 🎧

This isn't the typical story I'm used to seeing behind this type of cover. We have a heroine no longer in the first flush of youth and who is used to working hard and getting stuff done without being whiney. I found her refreshing. I loved her new book club friends and the way she threw herself into her now town. I also liked John a lot but appreciated that the romance was only one element of the story rather than the whole show.

This was a very sweet book, that I would call more women‘s fiction than romance, though it has a sweet slow burn love story. I love a good 40something woman finding herself story. A delightful small town story with a charming cast of characters. It is a little slow at times but still charming. 4⭐️

3.5 ⭐️This 📖 is about having the courage to let go of what no longer serves us & taking out a new lease (📚 specific pun) on life. Of the rom-com genre, it delights w/ its atmospheric plot & witty dialogue. Read it if you‘re looking for a cozy read w/ a side of laughter. I was delighted that the 📚 features hints of feminism: a sex-positive woman‘s book club & a differently abled 🏳️‍🌈 background character. 📄: 429 🛑: hint of emotional abuse

My kind of cabin! It was a successful Friendsgiving. I did not get much reading done because I enjoyed my time socializing with friends.

Took today off to head to the Upper Michigan woods for a Friendsgiving weekend at a cabin. Stopped at a local farm-to-table restaurant on the way for a blood orange mimosa & some reading. Happy weekend!

SamanthaMarie That sounds like so much fun! We have friends flying in from Oregon for a Friendsgiving week 😊 I hope the pit stop was lovely. 3y
BookBosomed1 @SamanthaMarie Lovely! Random fact: I lived in Oregon for a year. I love Oregon. Hope you all have fun. 3y
SamanthaMarie Aww I lived there for 3 years! It was where I met my husband actually. Sometimes I wish we could back, it's incredibly beautiful. Very expensive these days 😅 3y

BookBosomed1 @SamanthaMarie That‘s why I left. I only had a one year visiting professorship so had to vamoose afterwards bc it was high cost living. Such is life. 3y
BookBosomed1 @Chelsea.Poole You, too! 3y
SamanthaMarie What a cool place to have your visiting professorship though! It's definitely a bummer and definitely a problem in a lot of places these days. 3y
Nute What a cool adventure, Ms. Lindsey! I love calling it Friendsgiving. It already gives a very harmonious vibe to the event before it has even taken place. Happy Friendsgiving!💕 3y
