Find out in this hilarious romantic comedy. After having his heart trampled on by his cheating ex, Carter Ogden is afraid love just isnt in the cards for him. He still holds out hope in a tiny corner of his heart, but even in his wildest dreams he never thought hed meet the Crown Prince of England, much less do a lot more with him. Yes, growing up hed fantasized about the handsome, openly gay Prince Edgar, but who hadnt? When they meet by chance at an event Carters boss is organizing, Carters sure he imagined all that sizzling chemistry. Or was it mutual? This unlikely but meant-to-be romance sets off media fireworks on both sides of the Atlantic. With everyone having an opinion on their relationship and the intense pressure of being constantly in the spotlight, Carter finds ferocious obstacles to his Happily Ever After, including the tenacious disapproval of the Queen of England. Carter and Price Edgar fight for a happy ending to equal their glorious international beginning. Its a match made on Valentines Day and in tabloid heaven.

I really enjoyed the characters, the humor, and the writing style. However, this book is too short, the pacing is off, and it doesn't give us nearly enough of the central couple actually bonding and falling for each other. This wasn't a book that made me feel all my feelings, and it's not going to be one that sticks with me, but it was a good time. If you're looking for a relatively light, quick escapism read, this may be worth checking out!

I really should have bailed on this, I ended up hate-listening. I mostly don't mind suspending disbelief when I read romance, but this one required much too much of it. There was insta-love, inconsistency in characterisation of the MCs & stereotypes of the supporting characters, then there were all the ways in which the royal & UK stuff rang false. And the narrator's English accents were pretty terrible too.

TrishB It definitely sounds like you should have bailed! 2y
CarolynM @TrishB Yeah, I really should have 🙄😬 2y

Cute romance about an openly gay prince and an American event planner! Quick read, and there were many LOL moments.

@Shadowfat thank you so much for this lovely #swoonathonswap package! You are so sweet to send an extra book. Playing the Palace is actually on my wishlist and I've been meaning to try out something by Jasmine Guillory. And Casey McQuiston is always a good choice 😍 Thank you thank you!! I can't wait to read them all (and eat all the snacks - how did I not know Skittles gummies were a thing?! 🤤)

Started strong then fizzled. Great humor in the first half. Interesting premise. Loved the family meet and greet but the love plot was sparse and rushed. Listening to the audio with the incredibly talented Michael Urie definitely gave it more life but I felt like it needed more character development overall. I don‘t think I would even consider it an appropriate title. I really had high hopes but I feel so let down. Also I really hate this cover.

swishandflick I totally agree! I had an ARC of this and was so excited but ended up disappointed for all of the same reasons. 2y
Nutmegnc @swishandflick Well, I‘m glad it‘s not just me! But still disappointed for both of us! 2y

If you want a thoughtful book with well developed characters and a believable plot this is not the book for you. But if you're looking for a mindless beach read that's the gay cousin of that terrible Hallmark movie you don't admit to loving...

It's got insta-love. It's got a prince falling for a commoner. It's got over the top Jewish relatives, baking shows, nosy queens, a nosy Queen, and snarky best friends. It has literal rainbow vomit.

CarolynM Great review🙂 It sounds like a fun read if you're in the right mood. 3y

It's amazing how much space one small cat can take up. It's also amazing I can get any reading done when he's being so cute.

Event Planner meets British Prince. This book actually made me laugh out loud, and it was very sweet to watch them keep choosing each other. The streets say it's similar to Red White and Royal Blue, but it's has different twists and turns, also...so what if they share a premise? Do you know how many romances I've read about Dukes????

Is it a lot of fat stereotypes? Maybe. But that doesn‘t mean it wasn‘t a lot of fun! I could totally hear my friends in this and I loved it.

I had such high hopes for this but ended up pretty disappointed. It started on a promising note, I liked Carter's personality and there was a good amount of humor. But the romance itself fell flat. I'm all for improbable romances so long as the author makes me believe it, and with Carter and Edgar it just sort of happened with no convincing chemistry. I also think this book would have benefited greatly from dual perspectives. Bummer! 2.5⭐️

Cons- Instalove. The romance was so fast I was unable to suspend disbelief- from meet cute to crisis they only spent a few weeks together. Carter was a disaster & Edgar's POV would have been nice as I couldn't see what he was getting out of their relationship.
Neutral- it was fairly funny but the humor often tipped over into farce which doesn't appeal to me.
Pros- the 2ndary characters esp Abby & James.
Bottom line-wish I'd borrowed not bought

A LOL take on a royal romance, that I just adored. Prince Edgar is the first openly gay crowned prince, when he meets Carter Ogden by chance at an event, the fireworks are instantaneous.
