It's hot -- I'm just gonna sit my ass in the AC and read the day away
Im on a bad run: 2 bails in a row😩 30 pages in, I‘m wondering why the author seems to hate all of his characters. I Googled and it seems Condon liked to “rage” at politics, authority, military. This book is supposed to be satire. Fair enough. For me, it‘s a weird kind of satire, not being any colours of the “amusing” spectrum and it‘s full of obnoxious characters. It‘s verbose and dull. It spawned 2 films, which I haven‘t seen🤷🏻Bailed on p. 81

I did pretty well with my score on this one & I loves me some good movie villains!😱
Favorites (Going with 6)
My Top 2:
-Mrs. John Iselin of The Manchurian Candidate was the perfect amount of cold cruel evil & I‘m a fan of the book & both movie versions (although the original was best).
-Dr. Hannibal Lecter of The Silence of the Lambs-both book & movie freaked me the heck out in the best way! 😱
Other Favorites: ⬇️
This book is heavy on the politics and I found it kinda slow. And for a book about an assassin, it wasn‘t very murder-y. But, at about the last 100 pages, it gets good! And the ending is great! 👍🏻

So much better than the movies. If you want fierce antagonist mother read this book!
Just couldn't get into this one. The writing style wasn't for me, and I wasn't interested enough in the story to stick with it. Maybe I'll watch the movie.
As you can see from my bullet journal, I'm giving the Manchurian Candidate a shot. Have never seen the movie (either version) but obviously I know the general premise.
Day20 #FeistyFeb #PresidentialReads I usually prefer reading about people around the president rather than the president-but here's a few that fit: Manhunt-the 12 days between Lincoln's assassination & John Wilkes Booth's capture, Madame Presidentess-novel of Victoria Woodhull, the 1st woman to run for president, Manchurian Candidate-political thriller w/an election & from my TBR-Upstairs at the White House-behind the scenes w/the first families.
One of my gifts from my wife on International Book Giving Day - our version of Valentine's Day! Thank you @StacksNShelves ! 😘
#augustphotochallenge #politicsandbooks I thought my only political books were on food politics but then remembered this gem of a political thriller, published in 1959 during The Cold War. It's creepy, dark & twisted. My dad had me watch the excellent 1962 movie-sometime in the 80s & I bought the book after seeing the 2004 remake. If you like conspiracy theories, mind control & intricate plot twists, it still holds up today. #augustofpages 👍📚
