"A young woman moves to Los Angeles to escape her life and discovers she doesn't have to leave all of herself behind to make a fresh start, from USA Today bestselling author Abbi Waxman. When Laura Costello moves to Los Angeles, hoping to finally get away from her overprotective family, she doesn't expect to be homeless after a week. (She's almost certain she didn't start that fire . . . right?) When she's rescued by a charming but eccentric bookseller and installed in a slightly chaotic and entirely illegal boardinghouse, she isn't sure if she's fallen on her feet or just out of the frying pan. A handsome housemate, a landlady with regrets, and the unwelcome attention of an old flame conspire to make Laura's life far more complicated than she hoped. However, a set of new friends who widen her experience-and knowledge of trivia-will do their very best to help this transplant put down roots and learn what it really means to be an adult"--

Laura moved to LA to escape a controlling family and make a new start at Grad school. She‘s made homeless within one week and still dealing with past trauma. Enter Polly and Nina who befriend her and welcome her with open arms into their friendship circle. They accept her and protect her.
Such a warm, funny and heart warming story. I loved all the main characters. Each housemate was quirky in their own way and should have their own stories 4🌟

The POV in this changes so often, sometimes from one sentence to the next, that it's distracting from the story.

Thanks @Eggs for the #Two4Tuesday tag! 🤗

1️⃣ I honestly don‘t want a roommate but I guess I‘ll say Fitzwilliam Darcy in Pride and Prejudice so I could enjoy the grounds & library of Pemberley. 1️⃣

2️⃣ The boarding house in this book sounded absolutely charming & the group of roommates were fun too.

TheBookHippie #2 for sure!!! 8mo

After reading 2 books that shattered me back-to-back, I knew I needed a frothy and fun palate cleanser. Abbi Waxman always fits that bill. And bonus: Nina Hill appears in this one too!

I had gone almost halfway reading the tagged book before realising that Nina Hill made a comeback in Adult Assembly Required, though not as the main character but as a friend of the main character, Laura Costello. It made a nice read but I can't understand why it took so long for me to finish reading it.

I hand painted these faux ball which I used to decorate a birthday cake while I listened to some parts of the tagged 📕😉

It was a sad truism of her work that not everyone who needs help wants help, and not everyone who gets help uses it.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love this author ✍️ 1y

I can‘t tell you how much I needed a light & fun book this month & this one delivered. Another great #SundayBuddyRead pick. It‘s a follow up to The Bookish Life of Nina Hill & just as enjoyable (I‘d read Nina first if you haven‘t as many of the characters have big roles or just pop up here.) I am a sucker for found family stories & the one that Laura finds when she moves from NYC to Los Angeles for grad school is a quirky & lovable one. All the ⬇️

DebinHawaii …feels as Laura finds her way out of some trauma & an overly-dominating family & fiancé & finds herself. The usual great discussions at SBR made it even more enjoyable. Can‘t wait for Polly‘s book! ? Another book finished during #20in4 #readathon too. (edited) 2y
TheBookHippie The house vibe was my personal favourite. It‘s the hippie in me communes are the best. 2y
DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie Although I think I am to the point in my life where I couldn‘t do roommates -I totally want to go to there! 🤣 2y

Verity I have this on my tbr pile! I should move it closer to the top right? 2y
DebinHawaii @Verity I think if you are in the mood for a light rom-com with quirky characters about friendship & found family, then yes. 🤗 2y
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 🤣🤣🤣 agreed! 2y
Verity @DebinHawaii I mean that‘s basically all I‘m in the mood for right now so yes! 2y

Happy Friday 🎉🎉 finished this for #sundaybuddyread and I‘m really happy with how it all wrapped up. This is touted as a stand alone book but I consider it a sequel to The Bookish Life of Nina Hill. Most of the lovely characters from Nina are in this and I‘m happy to see them. We meet some new people in AAR and I hope there are further developments from this lovely part of the bookverse coming our way

We re-enter the world of Nina Hill but from a different perspective. Laura, decides to make a change in her life and moves across the country to attend grad school. The friends she makes helps her to find herself while recovering from a trauma. It‘s much more lighthearted than I‘m making it sound, but also delves into the seriousness of life and the problems we all deal with. Quite enjoyed this world and was happy to go back. #sundaybuddyread
