This was a pleasant enough read, but I felt like I was missing something. Maybe if I read Nina Hill first?
#LMPBC
I will get this in the mail on Friday!
I was so excited to hear about this book! I had loved The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, so hearing that some of the characters would show up here too made me really happy. The characters were great- I loved Laura and Impossibly Handsome Bob. I wasn't ready for the book to end.

Another great Abbi Waxman novel, both different than The Bookish Life of Nina Hill and similar as well. Laura moves from New York to Los Angeles to attend grad school, but also to get away from her family and ex-fiance. Shortly after she arrives, she finds herself in need of help, and stumbles into a bookstore owned by Nina Hill. Laura soon finds herself befriended by a lovely cast of characters.

Today has been spent just reading so far, which is lovely! I read this book that @BennettBookworm gave me this fall, and while I didn‘t love it as much as Waxman‘s previous book The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, it was very sweet and fun with a colorful cast of characters. Fitz snuggled with me while I read and the headphones were to cancel out the noise in the house. π
Now I‘m going to open my #jolabokaflodswap package!!

A young woman arrives in Los Angeles determined to start over and meets a βtotally normal and mostly friendly dog thief who lives in the house and looks like a movie starβ. #IYKYK
I started this the other day and just now realized that I bought it for #sundaybuddyread π€¦π»ββοΈ it‘s for April so I‘m going to stop and pick something else up. I had specifically stacked my Sunday reads in a separate pile but the Christmas decorations have caused my haphazard organizing to fail π€£π€£π
@Bookwormjillk @suvata @vonnie862 #LitsyMarkUpPostalSwap This is a cute story and, as you can see by all of those paper clips, I did have a lot to say as I read it. Maybe it‘s because I‘m also reading and much more interested in Fairy Tale by Stephen King, but I felt myself getting bored several times with this one. Revisiting characters from Waxman‘s other books was fun. This one was just ok.

Starting the #OutstandingOctober Readathon with my Saturday morning #coffeeandabook βοΈπ. I have no goals for this readathon other than to just read a much as I can whenever I can. π

This was just so-so for me. Maybe too many characters? Though I did like seeing some past characters back in that mix. And just a smidge to slow for me, the whole will they are won‘t they just went a little too long. I did love Maggie (quirky landlord) and the pets were adorable. I‘ll read more from her, also could have been the narration. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #AwesomeAugust @Andrew65
Cleaning my backpack - only 1 bookβ¦so far.
Omg how I loved this book! It was just so readable! I really love Waxman‘s style of writing and dialogue and fun yet complex characters. Laura moves to LA to start grad school against her family‘s wishes and she stumbles into the bookstore run by Nina Hill (from Waxman‘s The Bookish Life of Nina Hill). There she finds a place to live with a bunch of welcoming & loveable characters. I didn‘t want this book to end but I was satisfied with the end.
Abbi Waxmanβs latest is salve for a wounded soul, full of humor and friendships. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#adult-assembly-required
Contemporary romance isn‘t usually my jam, but I have a soft spot for Waxman. I enjoy her nerdy, comical cast of characters. Sweet beach read!
Laura recently relocated to LA following a tragic car accident, and during her first week, her apartment burns down. Luckily, she walks into Nina‘s bookstore β¬οΈ, and they find her a room in Polly‘s house. With her new friends, she begins working through her trauma and develops a crush on her roommate, Bob.
βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ A traumatic experience leads to new friendships that morph into family. This common thread, punctuated with humor, is a Waxman staple. It works; she‘s a must read! Set in the world of Nina Hill and Garden of Small Beginnings, new LA transplant Laura ducks into a book shop during a downpour. There, she meets some whimsical folks who immediately take her in. Sometimes it takes a village to raise an adult, and to gently help them adjust.
Abbi Waxman is good for my mental health.
I was laughing from page 1. It was great to visit some dear friends and make some new ones with a story that was sweet and funny.
I‘m glad this MC stumbled into Nina Hill‘s bookstore on a rare rainy LA. afternoon so she could befriend Nina and Polly. Although a weaker pick than my initial intro to Nina, I enjoyed the friendships here. I really liked Bob but the βdoes he/does he not‘ like me trope was stretched too long for responsible mature adults. β¦Props to Laura though, my driving fears are much less than hers but I would never face traffic behind a wheel in LA!
I once attended a virtual author chat with Abby Waxman and she was so damn funny, I literally fell off my chair. So happy I was able to pick this up from the library today so that I can distract myself from the Ontario election where we‘re almost definitely re-electing a terrible government that doesn‘t care about the environment or it‘s citizens.
It‘s always fun when your book matches your flowers πΈ

The call letting me know this book was available to pick up, came while I was in a daily morning meeting at work. It took everything in me to focus on what my manager was saying about daily goals and other only somewhat important announcements, then I had to get through my whole work day before the book could be picked up! Being an adult is hard sometimes. π
