Evelyn Elizabeth Grace Murphy's dad owns the Pinnacle Hotel. She lives there, and spends much of her time paying attention to the little things that go on around the hotel, and details about the people who stay there. She's known for finding lost things and being able to figure things out, so when a murder occurs at the hotel, she takes it upon herself to try to solve the mystery, with her dog Presley always by her side.

A late read for #CBBC 2023 Mixed feelings with this cozy mystery set in the 1958. The mystery was interesting but main character was so annoying in some way. Even when she was the one who resolved the mystery which is not a spoiler but an obvious comment, I didn‘t like the way she was treated by some of these men...and she just cried all the time or seemed not to understand the insult. Maybe was me but I couldn‘t stand this. 2.95/3? ⭐️

Finished this awhile ago and I‘m still not sure how I feel about it. Overall I enjoyed it, and several of the characters caught my attention. The MC went back and forth between annoying and not so I think that‘s where my hang up is.

This is a fun, basic murder mystery set in a hotel in NYC in the 1950s. It's actually a pretty clever setting as the narrator is a recluse so she never leaves the fake hotel. It does have Agatha Christie vibes to some extent. I might not read another tbh.

Wrong era but my aunt's Armani statues provide a chic background in any case.

This November #Aardvark clue stumped me. But maybe this matches, even though it was released in October?

? = Socialite
? = Sounds like the mc has a dog because I saw a review that mentions her "dog walker"
? = It's a "cozy mystery" involving the theft of a painting and the murder of an artist
? = NYC

Breanne1 I just have to say I‘m horrible at these clues but love to see your guesses. 😝 2y
swishandflick @Breanne1 No idea how accurate any of them are but it's kinda fun to sift through the synopsis for new releases and seeing what fits! Haha 2y

I went into this thinking this was an “historical” mystery (that‘s how it‘s listed), but in my opinion it‘s more of a “cozy”. And I‘ll preface this by saying I‘m not a cozy afficiando. Evelyn Elizabeth Grace Murphy is an heiress in 1958 Manhattan who lives in her father‘s luxury hotel. She suffers from bouts of agoraphobia as she discovered her murdered mother in the hotel alley as a young child. She and the bellhop (also her dog walker/romantic🔻

robinb interest), investigate the art theft/murder of an artist in the hotel as she is “good at finding things”. While she is seen as pampered/ditzy by some (she tries to emulate Marilyn Monroe in her looks, etc.), she has a heart of gold. I got the feeling that the author modeled Evelyn a bit on Cher (Clueless…putting her designer outfits together) and Elle (Legally Blonde…carrying her dog Presley around in her purse). 🔻 (edited) 2y
robinb She‘s annoying at times but ultimately likable. I‘m giving this a 3/5⭐️(my amateur opinion), but other cozy lovers may rank it higher. 2y
