This fun little book convinced me to stay in bed for an extra hour this morning. I like this series about Queen Elizabeth solving crimes in the most proper way, and I‘m glad the author found a way to keep it going.

9-23-25: My 63rd finished book of 2025! Book 4 in the series, this one goes back in time to the late 1950s. HM Elizabeth II is in the midst of a lot of traveling to other countries when in her own backyard, there is a double murder and the police can‘t seem to figure it out. After enlisting Joan, a typist, she finally has someone to bounce her ideas off to. Joan is sent around to find clues that the cops keep overlooking. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣6️⃣3️⃣

I enjoyed just how the author portrayed the Queen‘s humanity in this book. She was quite likable to me & had me rooting for her! It‘s 1957, & Queen Elizabeth, new at her royal role, suspects someone among her father‘s courtiers intends to sabotage her reign in public.2 bodies are discovered in Chelsea that are possibly linked to her monarchy. She asks an ex-code breaker to help her unravel the truth. #serieslove2025 #4

Queen Elizabeth II's first investigation with an assistant private secretary - in this case a dependable, clever woman named Joan McGraw who had an "interesting war". When the Queen fears there may be a plot to sabotage her State Visits and murders in an acquaintance's house that may link to the Royal Family (however obliquely), she brings in Joan to help make discreet inquiries. An interesting denouement and I am half in love with Hector Ross.
