Eruption: Following Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton Started Another MasterpieceJames Patterson Just Finished It | James Patterson, Michael Crichton
21 posts | 19 read | 2 to read
The biggest thriller of the year: A history-making eruption is about to destroy the Big Island of Hawaii. But a secret held for decades by the US military is far more terrifying than any volcano. "The first summer blockbuster masterpiece... as thrilling and jaw-dropping as Jurassic Park." Don Winslow, #1 internationally bestselling author of The Cartel and City on Fire "This is heart-pounding storytelling at its finest. I dare you to try and put this amazing book down." T.J. Newman, #1 internationally bestselling author of Falling and Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 1421 "The once-in-a-lifetime combination of Michael Crichton and James Patterson results in one of the most entertaining novels I've read in years." Adrian McKinty, #1 internationally bestselling author of The Chain The master of the techno-blockbuster joins forces with the master of the modern thriller to create the most anticipated mega bestseller in years. Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project hed been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the worlds most popular storyteller.

I think it's really cool that Michael Crichton started this book before his death and that James Patterson was able to come in afterwards to pick up and complete the story. Was it my favorite book? No, it wasn't. But I enjoyed the #audiobook reading experience all the same.

⬗ Also, I hope the scenario depicted in this book is not something we could potentially have to deal with one day in real life.
⬗ My first ever audiobook by Scott Brick (who so many people love), he‘s not about to be a favorite but he was decent.

monkeygirlsmama Just started this one this morning. 😬 5d

I have never read anything by these two authors. This is not my typical genre to read. It was for a book club I'm in. There is a lot of action and sadness. I thought there were some corny lines. It was just okay for me. But if you're a fan of these two, you'll probably really enjoy it.

Not a great read. No dinosaurs. 🦕 🦖

But beyond that it‘s Patterson, do not doubt. Short chapters, underdeveloped characters that you neither like nor want to root for.

You will get action & scary-nature feels coz, 🌋

Rich WP remain sucking flaccid donkey teat, as we are well-known to do. It did make me want to devote more time to learning Hawaiian though.

TieDyeDude A very descriptive review 😉 😆 Yeah, I don\'t hear Michael Crichton and think James Patterson; disappointing choice. 2mo
RamsFan1963 I've enjoyed ever Crichton I've read, but I won't read this because I think James Patterson is a sucky writer. 2mo
Soscha Had Crichton not passed he could well have put it all together though. A shame. 😢 2mo

Yikes. This book has WAYYYYYY too many loose ends, the whatever-you-call-it between Mac and Jenny (or Rebecca? Who knows) was laughable, and none of the characters were likable, memorable or interesting! It made me mad because the first 100 pages were so good and then it all went downhill. And the END? Woof. This book was exactly what I was expecting it to be: fast, action-packed and thrilling. It was a little hard to wrap my head around the more technical science stuff but as long as I just went along for the ride I was good 😁. It feels like a summer blockbuster movie so it‘s pretty perfect for the end of summer reading! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks to @dabbe for tagging me and @rachelsbrittain for hosting #weekendreads I haven‘t had much time to read because I‘m hanging with my daughter and granddaughter, so I‘ve been trying to keep up with the #hashtagbrigade and while I‘m driving I‘ve been listening to the tagged book.

BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I‘m about halfway through, it‘s really good. Lots of technical jargon but not in a bad way 3mo

Well if this is a "can't put down" book. May give up trying to get anything done today and just read.
Finished & loved the excitement. Have been to Volcanoes Nat'l Park & walked through lava tubes so found the science pretty interesting & of course the story thrilling. Crichton & Patterson what more can you ask for in a thriller.

I‘m glad that Crichton‘s wife allowed Patterson to finish her late husband‘s novel based on a mega volcanic explosion on the big Hawaiian island. It‘s not filled with enough scientific explanations that Crichton would have added but it gives you the dreaded fear of what a giant volcanic explosion would be like. I miss Michael Crichton. 🌋🌋🌋

A big bucket of popcorn summer blockbuster of a book. Heavy on the action and light on character development. As advertised.

Lots of action as you can expect from two authors like these fine ones. As you know Michael had the basic outline for this book before his death. Patterson undoubtedly added a lot of the action.

I haven‘t been this excited about a book in quite a while. I love a good disaster movie. The more over the top it is the more I love it! And this book looks like a disaster movie waiting to happen. And who wouldn‘t love a book started by Michael Crichton and finished by James Patterson?! I only hope I am not over-hyping it to myself! I‘ll let you know😉

Fast-paced, blockbuster, natural disaster nonsense. Exactly what I needed. The perfect Father‘s Day book. Divine.

Great beach read, action packed thriller. A lot easier to read than I was expecting, less science big words. Would make another amazing movie. It reminded me a bit of TJ Newman‘s style. If you like disaster movies, you will like this book.

BarkingMadRead I just got the audiobook for a trip to Savannah in July, can‘t wait! 4mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I kept thinking all along that this could have been a fabulous book if Crichton had been writing it. Patterson is great at fast-paced thrill rides, but he doesn't have M.C.'s depth. Then that ending. Ugh. It left me as ticked as Andromeda Strain did. If you like b movie like disaster stories, you'll probably enjoy this one. I did enjoy it. But I was supremely disappointed in the end.

When Michael Crichton passed away in 2008, he left behind an unfinished manuscript. His wife, Sherri, took those notes to James Patterson to complete it. And what a team the two of them make! This books lives up to all the anticipation surrounding it. This is your fun summer thriller! Fast-paced, well researched, and full of tension and adventure, Eruption is what I call the perfect "popcorn book" and it reads like a summer blockbuster.

Suzze I really enjoyed it! I used to devour Crichton back in the day, so I hoped this would live up to my memories of his writing in his heyday. It did. JP did a good job! 5mo

I really enjoyed this. It was a little more Patterson than Crichton but Scott Brick narrates and he narrates some of Crichton‘s best so it felt great. I could see it be a disaster movie. Wish there was a little more Crichton description but it only warranted a small reduction in my enjoyment.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4

RamsFan1963 I planned to skip this because of my dislike for Patterson, but I might give the audio a shot. I'm a big fan of Scott Brick 5mo
Twainy @RamsFan1963 agreed!! The story suffers a little as it‘s a little more Patterson than Crichton but all of my favorite Crichton books are narrated by Brick so that made a difference. It‘s an interesting idea that ended up more of a Patterson thriller but I see the potential 😁 5mo

Ehhhhh. I've read multiple Crichton book and no Patterson books, and this book read to me like a watered down Crichton book. I felt like it needed a little more science to go with the action and more complex characters. I probably would have liked it more as a straight up disaster movie.

I finished the Julie Anne Long historical romance last night and decided I was in the mood for a disaster thriller. So I picked up Eruption.🌋

RaeLovesToRead Ooh. Gorgeous shelfie!!! 5mo
RamsFan1963 I can't decide on this one. I always loved Michael Crichton, but I despise the work of that hack, James Patterson. 5mo

This was one of my most anticipated books of the summer and it did not disappoint. This was a different read for me but when I found out that James Patterson was going to adapt Michael Crichton‘s manuscript I know I had to read it. This was such a thrilling read and it was fascinating for me to read about the volcanoes.
Thank you so much to Little, Brown and Co and James Patterson‘s Street Team for the advance copy of this novel!
