@BarbaraBB gifted me this for my birthday, following Littens‘ recommendations again….and I loved it as much as Barbara did.

We had a nearly-buddyread and then we were trying to discuss what we thought happened next, without spoilering it for everyone else who hasn‘t read it. 😜

I loved the MCs and their complicated relationships and wanted the best for all of them - I just couldn‘t stop reading.

It is #Gladstones25 week. On Thursday I‘ll be leaving for Gladstone‘s Library in Wales to read and chat and walk and eat cake with other Littens!

I loved this book that came so highly recommended. Written by a Croatian author, and taking place in a small town in Croatia, we follow Ivona through her relationship with the love of her life, Vlaho. Beautifully written about characters who come alive on page after page through their personal journeys and their connections to each other. ⬇️

Lesliereadsalot You know that expression “sense of self” and how we all try to attain it in our own lives? That‘s these characters, that‘s how real they are. So worth your time! 4mo

Grief, regret, and longing. Ivona divorced her the love of her life, Vlaho, years ago but their lives remain entangled. He has remarried and has children but nothing about Ivona‘s life has turned out the way she wanted. When she meets a man their relationship upsets the balance she and Vlaho have obtained and bitter truths are revealed. Ivona makes decisions that I never would but I couldn‘t help but worry and read on.

This is one of the most beautiful writing I've encountered, ever. Hilje manages to deliver a story filled with longing and lost love between partners, in life and country.
