I‘ve read another book with a similar concept, but this book did the locked room horror house very right. Revenge plots and a heroine (or is she) and who finds her voice. Very good end to spooky season.

Thank you do much @Ddzmini You spoiled me. I love how you wrapped the books. They looked fantastic and the ones you picked out were perfect. I have almost bought How To Survive a Horror Story numerous times. The tote bag, book sleeves, postcards, bookmarks, stickers and other treats are wonderful. Thank you and Happy Halloween 🎃
Thanks for hosting @MaleficentBookDragon

@mcipher I adore everything about this #AllHallowsReadSwap package! The sprayed edges on the tagged book are fantastic. I‘m very intrigued by the brown butter chocolate bar. The apple candle smells like a fall afternoon and Pennywise has a spot on my shelf right next to my Michael Myers candle. Thank you so much!

So-So bc the tone felt confused. The majority felt causticly sarcastic a la Willy Wonka or Scooby Doo, but the stakes are serious…basically this book felt unsure if it was horror or a dark comedy. 🤷🏻♀️
A group of writers are invited to the manor of a legendary peer after his death to hear his will. A deadly escape room ensues. #OUABC #OnceUponABooKClub

“The body‘s been stripped of skin, muscle, hair — but its skull still sits cockeyed on a broken, mangled neck, its mouth ajar like its screaming.”
Second gift was this too pretty to burn candle!!! *My* mouth is ajar. This is gorgeous.

Got to open my first two of four gifts in my #OUABC box today!
Points for creative packaging for the first gift: a coral liquid lipstick akin to a shade one of the character‘s wears - but in knife packaging?!? Too cool.
“Stained with the shade Coral Number Two, Winnie‘s lips are the most dangerous weapon of retribution.”

A moment for spooky meets quirky sprayed edges! 🤭 #onceuponabookclub #ouabc

She‘s arrived! I‘m trying something new by gifting myself #OnceUponABookClub‘s Nightmare box. Will probably start in tomorrow.
The box includes bookish gifts that you open once you reach certain page markers. I‘ll post photos throughout - should I do so with spoiler blocks? 🤔

Unfortunately, this was a major flop for me. The beginning was so strong and intriguing, and then it nose dived. The plot was very one note, super repetitive, the same thing over and over again. The characters weren't likable in any way. A lot was very convenient. There were also many stories that would repeat just from another POV, which I do not like. The author wanted to spoon feed everything to the reader. And that ending... 2/5

It‘s a stressful day at the end of a very stressful week and apparently I decided buying purple books is the cure? All of them have cute page edges too! If only I could read all 3 at once… 💜

And this fun reminder of how much I treated myself while in Austin! In addition to seeing Silvia Moreno-Garcia & getting her (autographed) book, I treated myself to this amazing crane, 2 journals, 1 amazing felt pouch, and 2 new books! ✨✨✨
Also, upper right…. It‘s almost time! This is just a teaser… #savethedate #startofswapseason #FallingForFallSwap #fffs @LitsyEvents

A group of writers are invited to the reading of the will of legendary horror author Mortimer Queen. Queen passed away recently & the group find themselves assembling at his eerie manor house. Each of the guests were linked to Queen in some way & are a beneficiary in his will, but first they have to play a game. Each room in the house contains a riddle, & the group must solve the riddle, before progressing onto the next room. (continued)

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
What a fun book, and impressive debut novel! This takes inspiration from the classic locked room mystery and gives it a horror twist. I would call this Clue crossed with 13 Ghosts - two movies that I adore, and the concept worked well.⬇️
