This book dragged on and didn‘t live up to the hype. The rich acted as if they were superior to everyone else and their morals were terribly flawed. There were a couple of red herrings, and while the truth behind one missing child was heartbreaking, the other made sense. Not sure if this was a good snapshot of the 70s era. But honestly, it didn‘t need to be nearly 500 pages long. Book #103 in 2024

A locked room mystery in winter is usually my kind of thing but this had a cast of unpleasant male characters & an undertone of misogyny that was ick. The mystery was not outstanding, although I admit the writing kept me interested. Being among male characters who either become violent or enamoured in the presence of beautiful women was not fun. Disappointing. I read this for the "classic mystery" prompt for #CloakAndDaggerChristmas @Ruthiella

Tamra Oh shoot. 😒 I do love the covers of this series though. 11mo
batsy @Tamra I know! These covers get me every time 😆 11mo
Ruthiella That is disappointing. ☹️ Simon Thomas, on the recent podcast episode #103 Tea or Books? was noticing that these kind of reissue series won‘t republish books that are racist, but misogyny is still “acceptable” apparently. Interesting that. 11mo
batsy @Ruthiella Tbh, a good portion of golden age mysteries or books from this era in general will have a combination of all of it, which is a bummer to think about for sure. 11mo

22 #103 I don‘t know why I‘m still reading this series. It gets more stupid with each book. One more book to finish before 1/1 to reach my goal. No problem.

Listened to 5 hours of this book yesterday on my road trip to visit my daughter. Again, never underestimate an “old” lady! No way am I in as good a shape as these girls! They are bad-ass! Very good if you are a fan of saving the world from terrible people - and who isn‘t? #103 #BookSpin #BFC22 #ReadMyRoom #MMDBookClub #20in4 #PromptMaze #Scarathlon2022 #Spookoeeen #31by31 #Pointsathon #LittenListens #AutumnBingo #bodycountbingo

I liked this book. It made me laugh and nearly made me cry. I thought the characters were endearing and I was rooting for them. Casey McQuiston wanted to give us “a spark of joy and hope” and she did! #103 #BookSpinBingo #10 #BFC21 #5 #TAILSandTALESforADULTS #30 #THEROYALREADATHON - Sidekicks - HerHer #HSREADATHON

The cover speaks for itself...

eanderson Ugh, the whole Epstein thing fascinates me and disgusts me at the same time. He made my skin crawl in a documentary I watched about him. 4y
bookaholic1 @eanderson I haven't seen the documentary, but I heard it was good 4y

I Am Radar: A Novel | Reif Larsen

#103 of my year. I have seen a few reviews online about this one and am really excited to see what I think lol Listening to Forever (feat. Post Malone & Clever)Justin Bieber ♥️ outside time because it‘s finally cool enough, my boys and I are doing rain dances and constantly sending up rain prayers to the sky‘s hoping it can help the fires. This year just has to get better, it just has to 🌻🌨

Caffeinated_Reader Holy hell. That was the strangest and most interesting story I‘ve read, similar to House of Leaves. It was bizarre and uncomfortable at first, I had so much hate for Charlene because of what she did to Radar and after she finally came clean about it I just felt so bad for everyone. 4y
Caffeinated_Reader She set into motion so much insanity just with one choice, she couldn‘t possibly know things would end up the way they did but for me it felt like had she not chose to fly out & have Radar “cured” then Kermin wouldn‘t have had to build what he did and go down that path. It‘s hard trying to explain without giving away the story lol anyways I liked it. It was smart and intriguing and insane and bizarre and just totally worth the read. 4y
