In the 80s & 90s, I was very into Mary Higgins Clark books. It amazes me that she turned 90 this past December. She's published over 50 books, her most recent last month, and her mystery & suspense titles have stayed in print since "Where Are the Children" first released in 1975. I think that qualifies her as one of America's sweethearts and one of America's biggest and most enduring mystery authors.

She may be more of a tragedy icon than an #americassweetheart but is also remembered for her lifelong contributions to the arts and preservation of historic architecture. As well as for her style, elegance, and grace - a fashion icon. Amidst scandals and all, she still enthrals the world.

This is a very distorted imagining of one of holywoods iconic female images - a woman who spans the innocence of national velvet to the ultimate sexuality of cleopatra and the classic American play 'cat on a hot tin roof'- j g ballard has the image of her as central to his fantasies of car crashes ( i hesitate to say that i think she was born in Britain?) Still definitely an American goddess - sweetheart???

Totally treated myself to a book since I haven‘t purchased many (I have 2 coming from book depository 😳) and I‘ve been dying to read this one! I‘m using this as my #americassweetheart because the main character is a bad ass! I couldn‘t pass up the Groot bookmark!!! So cute! #getmovin #mounttbrchallenge

I loved the structure of this novel, framed around each of the marriages of a Hollywood bombshell, articles in gossip mags, and the writing of a biography by an up-and-coming journalist..... Evelyn is a complex, flawed and driven character, and this story of her life and loves takes some unexpected turns. Thoroughly enjoyable....

The eldest daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt, Alice was not necessarily #americassweetheart ...her causes and beliefs stirred controversy. I‘ve wanted to read the tagged book. She sounds like she had spunk and refused to be silent! #getmovin
