I live in the Amish belt and know the stance on war is clear but I hadn't ever considered the draft playing into it. There was a section of a character who conscientiously objected the war/draft and was then stoned & attacked for doing so by complete strangers further emphasizes the hate to those not willing to serve. That was eye opening but even more so was that they never called the police or took him to a hospital but rather,...

MaggieCarr ...cleaned him up and monitored his healing at home. Is that really how it would have played out? I'm not so sure, the Amish around me go to the same doctors the rest of us do, and use traditional medicine. Maybe that is something that has changed since Vietnam? I'm not so sure. 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures I have an easier time believing they didn't take him to the hospital if they were very conservative than I do wrapping my head around him being stoned? I was even trying to figure out when the last person was stoned in the US and wasn't able to figure it out. 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures My dad's mother loves these books, this lady and a lady named Janette Oake! 1w
MaggieCarr Yes, both authors are community favorites at our library but I don't see the appeal. The male MC was walking along the road and some "English" pulled over and beat him with rocks before leaving him with a busted hand and arm, and a concussion and ear trauma that led to deafness in that ear all because he didn't sign up to serve. Meanwhile the Amish boy that did sign up to serve is spoken poorly of among some of the Amish before returning home. ? 1w

Cute little teen-type of clean romance stories. Stories were so similar that I read the 1st 2, then bailed. It was odd to have a glossary to understand the Amish words & phrases used in the stories; however, it probably added to the authenticity of the text? Enjoyed.

Pickpick

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is book one in the series. It had a lot of twists and turns in it. I couldn‘t put it down. This book grabs you from the very first page. I would recommend this book.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Pickpick

This was a nice Amish story. It's been a while since I've last read one. There was a touch of suspense to this, while still having a focus on a romance. A lot of time was covered in the book, so it felt like some things were a little rushed. But I really enjoyed the story and finished it within a day.

Read this in one day. Last book in The Brides of Lancaster County. Rachel is in love with Silas. The only problem is, he's in love with her older sister, Ana and thinks Rachel is a little kid. When Ana leaves the Amish faith, will Silas realize Rachel is grown up? Can he ever trust someone again?
4.5⭐
