Repost for @Jess861

3 books that are written by Indigenous authors. Comment on what book you‘d like to read if you want. All 3 books, even though they are fiction, will give some insight into the lives and culture of indigenous peoples in Canada as well as how they have been treated. Indian Horse came out a while back so may not be easy to find outside Canada.
All are welcome to join. Let @Jess861 know.

Jess861 Thank you so much for the re-post :)! 6h

I feel all three of these books (even though they are fiction), will give some insight into the lives and culture of the Indigenous peoples in Canada as well as how they have been treated. Indian Horse came out a while back so I'm not sure how easy it will be to find outside of Canada.

All our welcome to join - let me know if you want to.

KathyWheeler I‘m fine with any of them. Just an FYI, my library, in Alabama, has Indian Horse as both a print book and an ebook (through Hoopla). 1d
Readergrrl Since it‘s heading into the winter months, how about Moon on Crusted Snow? 1d

Jess861 @lauraisntwilder and @kwmg40 - Noted down :)

@Ruthiella - sounds good! So happy to hear that they seem to be readily available when people are looking!

Kitta Also Canadian and having trouble thinking of food that‘s not French Canadian! 😂 What are people planning to eat? Maple syrup? Canadian bacon? I‘d highly recommend butter tarts but idk where you can find them. 4w
Kitta @LiseWorks oh wow you painted this? Beautiful! 4w

LiseWorks @kitta, I'll post a photo of it for you to see. Also I'm french Canadian, lol, but I can cook all kinds of recipes that will have maple syrup, bacon but not necessarily french Canadian 😋 4w
Liz_M @Kitta Poutine? 4w
Kitta @LiseWorks Id love to see it! I always get asked about what actually is Canadian food lol. I think beavertails and maple syrup on snow when I think of home. 4w
Kitta @Liz_M yes! But that‘s French Canadian. 4w
Catsandbooks @LiseWorks absolutely! Do you want to be added to the tag list or just participate this month? 4w

Repost for @Jess861

Looking to see if there would be any interest in a bookclub or buddyread around Canadian Fiction for the year of 2025. I'm thinking a monthly or bi-monthly book to read at your own pace with some discussion at the end of the month. If anyone is interested, just comment below :).

lauraisntwilder Oh, that could be interesting! 1mo
Jess861 @lauraisntwilder Thanks! There are so many great Canadian books to explore! 1mo
KathyWheeler My parents are Canadian and most of my extended family is. We are some of the few family members in the US. I‘d love to know more about Canadian literature. 1mo

Ruthiella Yes please! If possible, I‘d prefer bimonthly, just to keep the various group reads under control. 1mo
CarolynM I‘d be interested in joining in, although every month might be beyond me. 1mo
Jess861 @KathyWheeler that would be great if you decide to join in! 1mo
Jess861 @Ruthiella Awesome! I do think bi-monthly will end up working better since there are so many group read options that people are a part of! 1mo
Jess861 @CarolynM Great if you are able to join! I am leaning more towards bi-monthly and of course you can participate as your able or feel like it. It'll be pretty easy going 🙂 1mo
LapReader I‘m in. 1mo
Jess861 @LapReader Great to have you join :). 1mo
kwmg40 I‘d like to join, and bimonthly would work well for me. 1mo
Jess861 @kwmg40 Great! I think I can confirm it will be bimonthly at this point as that is what most are leaning towards. 1mo
Jess861 @lauraisntwilder @KathyWheeler @Ruthiella @CarolynM @LapReader @kwmg40

I think there is enough interest to go ahead on a bimonthly basis starting in January 😊. I'm going to add you to the tag list as you all showed interest but if you don't want to be please let me know. In mid to end November I think I'll put up a vote (2 or 3 books) on what we'd like to read first. I'd love to start with an Indigenous author and already have many ideas!
1mo
CarolynM Great! I have very little knowledge of Canadian literature so I‘m happy to go along with whatever titles you suggest. Looking forward to it 😀 1mo
lauraisntwilder Sounds great! 1mo
KathyWheeler @Jess861 Sounds great! 1mo
kwmg40 Looking forward to this! Being a Canadian, I have read a lot of Canadian books but I'm always happy to reread worthy books and also hope to discover some new authors. 1mo
Readergrrl I‘m interested, for sure! Part-time Canadian here; spend my summers with family in the Maritimes! 1mo
Jess861 @Readergrrl I'll add you to the tag list 🙂 1mo

1. This week‘s baseball joy: the hockey team‘s anthem singers came to Nationals Park to sing O Canada on cinco de mayo.
2. This is problematic in the bigger scheme of things, but it‘s always a joy to see deer outside my door.
3. Zendaya‘s first gown for the Met Gala gave me joy.
4. It was a joy to sit on the patio reading and drinking ginger ale.
5. It‘s always a joy to walk around the lake, but especially this time of year.
#5joysfriday

TheBookHippie Oh ginger ale. Yum. 6mo
DebinHawaii A lovely list of joys! 💛💛💛 Love seeing 🦌 too, even with the problems & I love ginger ale!. Thanks for sharing & spreading the joy! 🤗 6mo

If you're in Canada and have been wanting to sign up for #BOTM, now's your time! (Though they seem to have excluded Quebec for some reason?)

PS: Aardvark is also available in Canada so now you've got options!

rabbitprincess Quebec is often excluded from contests because of provincial legislation governing how contests can be administered, but in the case of BOTM I‘d wager they didn‘t want to have to translate all of their materials into French. 2y
swishandflick @rabbitprincess Ah, that would make sense! 2y
BookBelle84 I feel like the only reason they've made this available is because Aardvark is now competition for them.... the timing is just weird considering Canada has requested BOTM for years. 2y
swishandflick @BookBelle84 My thoughts exactly! 2y
