bailedI had to. The premise of the book was interesting but I couldn‘t get past the writing, which was simplistic at best and the “secret”, which is mentioned in the first chapter, is merely a rumour. I usually love #wwii #historicalfiction, but this one I couldn‘t get beyond 20% of the book. bailedI really wanted to like this. The premise of taking magical doorways to escape a war torn home sounded great but I just couldn‘t finish it. It felt like not much happened. His voice was great but it felt like he went on a lot of tangents. 🤷🏻♀️ Made it to 40% on the #audiobook. #bailed
bailedNope 😕 the style of writing feels childish and patronising. There is no flair or intelligence in the writing, I expected more from Mr Fry. Into the DNF bucket you go 👎

bailedWell...this isn t my kind of book. It's not badly written I was just bored and life is too short to be stuck reading a book I couldn't get into or find myself caring what happened next. I think this is a case of historical fiction mismatch.
