More like Slogging Towards Bethlehem.
I would have DNF'd this book but I got Reading Goals to achieve and this was a relatively short book.
A wildly pretentious and dull one at that.

Half way through and unfortunately more than slightly bored. A slow fire indeed! I did enjoy her first two books though. I rather enjoy the amazing view of shallow Caribbean waters 💕 #paulahawking #aslowfireburning #bahamas #vacation #bailed #notforme

SRWCF That view is amazing!!! 2y
TheBee @SRWCF yes it‘s a magical place 💕 #outisland of the #bahamas 2y

This was a myTBR recommendation for me a couple months ago. I tried, y‘all. I really tried, but at the 40% mark with 10 1/2 hours left, I just can‘t. The characters are flat, unbelievable, and annoying, and the writing is juvenile. It feels like Meyer was writing with an anatomy textbook and thesaurus in front of her, trying to sound smart and failing. I also wished the MC had died with her lab partner before the book even started. #NotForMe

rockpools Best. Review. Ever. I might not read the book though 😂😂 3y
Traci1 It took me a year to finish this one. I kept putting it down and picking it back up. You didn't miss anything. 3y
DGRachel @rockpools Thanks! Save yourself the trauma and skip this one. 🤣🤣 3y

DGRachel @Traci1 Good to know! I literally started to cry when I saw how much time was still left in the audiobook. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y

I don't know why I am reading it. I didn't know I signed up for a history lesson with so many characters and stories so cringe worthy and problematic! #notforme

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m not sure where to begin with this book. I think my favorite was Pheobe and mainly bc she always called Holden on his shit. It had its moments where it was humorous or philosophical but outside of those moments I really couldn‘t deal with Holden at all. This book might be a cult classic, it‘s just not a cult a care to join. #litsy #notforme #classics

LibrarianRyan I totally agree with you. People who idolize Holden annoy me. Why are you idolizing a whinny rich boy who does nothing? Ugggghhhhh 4y
jouleian @LibrarianRyan I think what total irritates me about Holden is he kind of glamorizes and yet at the same damn time undermines depression. He just makes it seem like all it is is being sad all of the time. He makes it seem so superficial at least until he starts talking to Pheobe. And by god I am sick to death of the word #phony 4y
LibrarianRyan @jouleian Yep. Not the worst book they made me read in HS but it's up there (the worst was the Scarlet Letter). 4y

It‘s been a wicked long time since I read a book that I needed to just END ALREADY, but boy oh boy was I glad to finish this one. I didn‘t quit because I kept thinking that I would become (magically, miraculously) invested in even one of these characters. Nope. (Having said all this, I bow to all writers of all books, and I hold that art and skill in high regard. And, I mean, I can‘t love ALL the stories in the world, right?) #notforme #onwards

I finished it! This was probably not the right time for me to read it, though. I wanted to love this book after hearing about it for years, and I can still see why so many do, especially kids who are used to being the smart ones (and often the lonely ones) at school. I adored many of the characters, and would have liked this a lot as an 11 year old, I think. But as an adult it was just. so. long. #middlegrade #kidlit #notforme

TracyReadsBooks My YA focused book group read it, we try to do at least on MG book a year, and to a one we all agreed it was too long and could have benefited from more editing. That being said, it‘s very popular with students. 🤷‍♀️ 4y
BennettBookworm Agreed! 4y
Tianarose Ohh, I am reading this with my son ( he is 9), we are enjoying it so far. 4y
emtobiasz @Tianarose I‘m so glad you‘re enjoying it! I can imagine reading this with the right kid would be amazing. @TracyReadsBooks @BennettBookworm glad I‘m not alone! 4y

A silly #debut novel, firmly in the #chicklit category. Holly Banks and her family have relocated to the village of Primm, and it's time for daughter Ella to start Kindergarten. Holly is annoying, her husband is a nervous wreck, her mother is an irresponsible addict, and the PTA president is just downright unbelievably over-the-top and mean. I'd only recommend to those who love this genre. #notforme #millenialauthor (maybe) #Booked2020

Cinfhen Sorry it didn‘t work for you!! But at least you checked off the prompt 😉 4y
cherinium @Cinfhen Well, as the saying goes, all books are not for all people. This book was a selection from #onceuponabookclub. I love the concept of the box, and have adored several of the enclosed gifts; but the book selections have mostly been books I would never read of my own accord. With that said, some of them were great, and I'm glad I had them put into my hands. 4y
Cinfhen That‘s the downside to a subscription service that chooses the books but at least you‘re enjoying the experience and extra swag!!! 4y

#gratefulreads that you #thoughtyouwouldlikebutdidnt

With respect to all you lovely lot that adore this book.... I detested it with a passion. Not helped by a terrible audio book narrator.... Managed about 80% then couldn't take any more lol. I won't tell you what I renamed it 😁😁 #notforme #unpopularopinion

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

Hooked_on_books I didn‘t like it either. But you made it much further than me—I bailed after a few chapters. 4y
julesG I read the whole trilogy just because I was hoping it would get better. It didn't. 4y
Lucy_Anywhere I read this years ago and remember being a bit disappointed... she was a bit wet, drank tea and took a lot of baths as I remember 4y

OriginalCyn620 Ha! I think I can fill in that blank! 😂 sorry you didn‘t like it though 4y
Balibee146 @Hooked_on_books I don't know why I wasted so many hours struggling through it! @julesG 😱😱😱 4y
Balibee146 @Lucy_Anywhere lol yup that just about sums it up.... Oh and rowed a lot and dithered even more 🙄🙄🙄 4y
Balibee146 @OriginalCyn620 the final word in my version still begins with w and ends in s........ 4y
WildQuibble Haha, I literally threw that one at the wall. There‘s a dent. No disrespect to those who enjoyed it; it was a ‘straw that broke the camel‘s back‘ situation as far as my paranormal romance reading went. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m iffy about starting this one based on all of the mixed reviews!! 4y
Balibee146 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks whatever you decide avoid the audio book at all costs lol 💩💩💩 4y
