I‘m enjoying some quiet with a book and an iced coffee in the hammock this morning. I‘ve barely made any time to read this book this month, so I‘m trying to make a bit of progress.

I read a few more pages of Quartet in Autumn today while filling the overhead bin (upper right photo) and found this unfamiliar word. Apparently, Marcia is having a tin of sardines originally for the cat.

This was an incredibly well told story of two Pakistani American teens and their families. Although the main story is when they‘re high school seniors, we learn a lot of family history for both. I felt many emotions while experiencing the lives of both Salahudin and Noor. They face some very difficult situations but come through with hope in the end.

I‘m giving this one a pick, but it‘s not an enthusiastic one. I really enjoyed the food aspects and the narrator‘s growth over the course of the story, but I wasn‘t really satisfied with the murder mystery aspect. I‘ll be curious to see the Camp Litsy discussion.
📷: I listened to quite a bit of this one around the farm and at home, including checking cows a couple days.

I‘ve been back to work on the family farm all week, mostly doing maintenance with my dad, and haven‘t listened to an audiobook since last Saturday. Today I did a bit of work around the sheds by myself and listened to “The Adventure of the Yellow Face.” I didn‘t remember this one at all, and appreciated the explanation of a story Sherlock didn‘t solve.

I‘ve spent several hours the last few days listening to Amadis of Gaul, and I‘m halfway through. I‘ll admit that I‘m not always completely focused on the story, but I do recognize all the main characters now and a lot of the action is repetitive. It‘s clear by now Amadis is the best and his love of Oriana is the strongest and most pure. Still 2 more books to go . . .

Published in 1957, this reads as an immediate view of the 1956 Hungarian revolution and flight of refugees. It‘s also completely a 1950s warning against communism. I was very much invested in the stories of these people who fought for and then fled their homeland.
🎧 I listened to the audio (a few hours while disking today) and found it bearable but not great.

I‘m trying something new today! Although I‘ve known burdock a long time, I finally took the time to dig up some roots.
I‘ve perused this book multiple times over the last few years without reviewing it. I haven‘t compared it carefully to other references, but I find it to be a useful book. It doesn‘t include recipes other than some basic suggestions, but it seems a good starting point for identification and ideas.

This was an enjoyable and entertaining listen. I cringed for Molly through many events in the first half and agree with some reviewers that the second half went a bit too quickly. I appreciated the found family aspect. I‘m still a bit torn on the epilogue, but the story kept me intrigued.
📷: I listened while I watered sweet corn, picked blackberries, and wandered through the woods with Luthien. #BooksOnTheFarm

This was a fun story, but I don‘t think it will be particularly memorable. I wasn‘t expecting the whole story to take place in Scotland, but I definitely enjoyed the Scottish setting. It didn‘t hold a lot of suspense for me; I always felt things were going to work out for David, no matter the difficulties along the way.
📷: I finished listening while watering the sweet corn patch and observing the bees.
