Fall is here! The temperature is in the 70s, the sky is gray, the leaves are changing! I‘m so ready to go for a walk. 🍂🍁🍂

#WeirdWordWednesday @CBee #WeirdWords

CBee This is lovely. Fall is “supposed” to be here, but it‘s still in the heckin 90s today. Barf. 3d
Seabreeze_Reader In an odd sort of way, what a beautiful word! It sounds perfect for introverted nature lovers. 3d
Amiable The Germans always have a word for everything. And it‘s usually the exact perfect word. 3d

rebcamuse I love expressive German compounds—so efficient-“Wahlt-eye-n-zam-keit”—gets to the heart of the matter! Merits its own word for sure :-) 2d

Solipsism, solipsist, solipsistic. Say those words ten times fast 😂😂 Other tidbits: solipsism is also a term for a specific philosophy, a symptom of certain mental illnesses, and apparently can become a syndrome after periods of extreme isolation. And yes, this is Narcissus. The two are different but I thought it was close enough 😁 #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

AmyG Way too much of this in the world. 😩 4d
TheBookHippie 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I do not understand selfishness. @AmyG 4d

ImperfectCJ @TheBookHippie I understand it on a basic level, but those who accept it and even embrace it as a way to run a business or, say, govern a country, rather than seeing it as something to fight against in themselves...that's what I don't get. 4d
TheBookHippie @ImperfectCJ well stated. 4d
AnnCrystal
Perfect word for this chaotic world 👏🏼☺️👍🏼💝.
(edited) 3d
CBee @ImperfectCJ agreed 👍🏻 3d
Seabreeze_Reader Partially because of what's going on in the US, this 'me-myself-and I' philosophy is becoming normalized, along with a lack of compassion. This is also disturbing, as I personally see this as an issue within neighborhoods. No wonder some people feel marginalized or bullied and businesses/non-profits cannot retain dependable and talented staff/volunteers for the longterm. (edited) 3d
dabbe 🧡🎯🧡 3d
BookmarkTavern I work with a couple people like this! 🫣 3d
CBee @Seabreeze_Reader it‘s very disturbing, I agree. I‘ve had more grumpy driver encounters than ever just in the past week. It‘s a bit scary. It‘s almost as if people now have “permission” to bully and spew hate. 3d
Seabreeze_Reader Well said @Cbee. 😣 Now the rest of us need to find a way to stop the rampant solipsism (although I probably mean narcissism) from eroding away our own sense of hopefulness and empathy toward others. {{{Hugs to everyone here.}}} (edited) 3d
CBee @Seabreeze_Reader yes! Lots of hugs to you as well 💚💚💚 3d
CBee @BookmarkTavern oh UGH I am so sorry!! 3d

@Amiable I‘ve been waiting for Wednesday! Thanks for putting this word in my atmosphere. Sadly, it‘s a frequent state of being for me these days. #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

julieclair Love this word! I use it all the time. Especially lately. (edited) 2w
Amiable Feeling agita definitely causes heartburn! 😖It‘s a very descriptive word. Thank you, Italy! 😀 (edited) 2w

CBee @Amiable which sucks if you already have heartburn, which I do 😂🤪 2w
CBee @julieclair it‘s more appropriate lately, for sure 😬 2w
Amiable @CBee It‘s like the chicken-or-egg. Which came first, the agita or the acid reflux? These days it‘s impossible to know for sure. 😖 2w
CBee @Amiable ha! At this point I can‘t remember not having both 🤪🤦‍♀️ 1w
dabbe @CBee @Amiable Boy, ain't that the truth? GERD, anyone? Ugh. Prilosec has been a best bud for years! This word sounds so pretty out loud, like it should be someone's name in a song! Its meaning, though ... 😱 1w
CBee @dabbe hello, fellow GERD sufferer. I hate that you‘re in this club too 😬 1w
dabbe @CBee Another thing we have in common! Though we wish we weren't alike on this one! 💛💜🧡 1w
AnnCrystal Brilliant word for these stressful days 💝🫂💝. 1w

IT IS SEPTEMBER! WHY IS IT STILL IN THE 90s?!? 🫠

#WeirdWordWednesday #WeirdWords @CBee

wildwoodreads I fear it will stay in the nineties until late October here in Alabama 🥵 2w
BookmarkTavern @wildwoodreads Oof! And you‘re dealing with the humidity too! 🫠 2w
wildwoodreads @BookmarkTavern Yeah it‘s rough lol. And honestly it‘s been in the high seventies on Christmas Day more times than I can count. One year we played basketball and I wore a tank top. 😂 2w

dabbe PERFECT word for Phoenix, too. It's been in the low 100s but with humidity above 60%. I love when the weather channel writes: Actual temp: 102. Feels like 108. 😳Yeah. Thanks, weather gods! 😂🔥😂 2w
CBee @wildwoodreads I‘m in Alabama too - hi! And 🥵😭 2w
wildwoodreads @CBee Hi, neighbor! What part are you from? I‘m in Northeast AL. 2w
TheBookHippie It was coool here then bam today it was 80 2w
CBee @wildwoodreads about 20 miles south of Birmingham 👋🏻 2w

Every wondered about the origin behind the word, Wednesday? And why isn‘t it pronounced Wed-nes-day, so weird. Anyway, here you go! I always thought the days of the week were all named for Roman gods - nope! #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords
Also, an article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/02/why-wednesday-the-days-of-the-week...

TheBookHippie Oh this is fascinating!!!! 2w
CBee @TheBookHippie I thought I was being lazy by actually choosing the word “Wednesday” but, it ended up being a lot more interesting 🤓 2w

TheBookHippie @CBee it‘s really fun. Look how smart you are!!! 2w
CBee @TheBookHippie aw gee 💚💚💚 2w
CatLass007 It really should be pronounced Wed-nes-day. 2w
Bookwomble I've always pronounced it wed-ns-day 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
Daisey Great choice for today‘s word! 2w
kspenmoll I thought the same, from the Romans. This was such fun!!!! 2w
BookmarkTavern How cool! 🤩 2w
dabbe I love learning new things! Thanks, m'dear! 🧡🩶💜 2w
CBee @Bookwomble I say “Wensday” 🤷‍♀️😂 2w
AnnCrystal 👏🏼🤩👍🏼💝💝💝 I loved when I first learned about this...also Woden connects with the God Odin, the chief Norse God. 2w
CBee @AnnCrystal yes, I read that! I really need to read more Norse mythology. (edited) 2w
AnnCrystal @CBee ☺️👌🏼 mythology is incredibly fun.

The name connection for Thursday is my favorite.

Funny thing, is that I've learned a boatload of legends from around the world and realized a few years ago that (in comparison) I know so little about the legends from my own ancestral world 😂🤔🥺 I'm currently on a journey to correct this about myself ☺️💫📚💝.
(edited) 2w
Cuilin I love stuff like this!!!! Thank you for sharing. 2w
CBee @AnnCrystal that sounds fascinating! Best of luck on your journey 💚 2w
CBee @Cuilin yay! So glad 💚 2w
lil1inblue I love this! Etymology is fascinating. 💫 🌟 💫 2w
CBee @lil1inblue the stars you added remind me of “the more you know” 😂😊💚 2w
lil1inblue @CBee That was what I was thinking about! I'm glad someone understood my thought process. 🤣 2w
CBee @lil1inblue from your posts and interacting with you a little, I think I can follow along pretty well. In the midst of our meteorology joint pain journey, we could also start a #randomthoughtsclub 😂😂 2w

Today‘s weird word post has to do with me learning about the origin of the name Bluetooth while reading this ARC of a soon to be published #MiddleGrade book. Bluetooth was named for Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson, a Danish king remembered for uniting tribes in Denmark & Norway.

CBee Oh! I wonder if it‘s Greek in origin. It sounds similar to the centaur Chiron and the ferryman Charon 🤔 2mo
Daisey @CBee It actually lists the origin as a company that created it on the dictionary entry. 2mo
CBee @Daisey right, I saw that. Just wondered if the word has a further origin besides the corporation name 🤷‍♀️ 2mo
