Big Book of Bread | Martin Philip, Jessica Battilana, Melanie Wanders
post image

There's nothing better than ordering a bread book directly from the King Arthur Baking Company, and it comes with flour on the cover! Luckily, it wiped right off! 😂

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage It‘s been christened 🤣 1w
willaful It just seems right! 1w
ncsufoxes King Arthur opened a pop up shop not too far from us (in Fairfax, VA). They are there until the end of January. I can‘t wait to see what they have. (edited) 1w

dabbe @ncsufoxes It's my husband's favorite online place to shop. You've been warned! 🤩😂🤩 1w
willaful @ncsufoxes Oh, how exciting! 1w
bookandbedandtea I love KABC! The cookie cookbook I ordered from them last year arrived sans flour. 😆 1w
dabbe @bookandbedandtea I thought for a second that maybe instead of styrofoam peanuts they chose to pack their items in flour! 😂 1w

Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story | Juana Martinez-Neal (Illustrator) Kevin Noble Maillard
Pickpick

This book serves as a great symbol of what different families and cultures are made of! The illustrations are great. It is a burning story about food, love, culture, and family!

Baking with Sourdough | Sara Pitzer

As mentioned in our latest episode, here is the sourdough loaf I just baked! Looks good but it was hard as a rock after an hour. Probably something to do with proofing at altitude. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks.

thebacklistbook Increase the sugar used to proof. Or adjust your baking time and temperature. The lower the temp typically keeps a loaf softer. Failing that switch to using bread machine yeast and a mixer revolving with dough hook on lowest speed for 20 minutes instead of kneading. And doing the rise in a warmed environment can help too. 2mo
Therewillbebooks @thebacklistbook Thank you so much! I'll try adjusting the temp. on my next loaf and go from there. 2mo

There‘s been plenty of preserving and a decent amount of baking in my home recently, but I haven‘t been making any new cookbook recipes. So, today I‘m sharing this year‘s final batch of candied jalapeños, a few jars of tomato sauce, and these cinnamon rolls even if they are online recipes. Since the sourdough cinnamon rolls are from the Clever Carrot blog, I‘m tagging Emilie Raffa‘s cookbook.

Tamra Oh, I wish I could “borrow” some of those jars. 2mo
Daisey @kspenmoll @Tamra Thanks! It‘s been a long time since I made such a perfect batch of cinnamon rolls, and my pantry is now stocked with canned goods for this winter. 2mo

“Fry bread is time. On weekdays and holidays, supper or dinner, powwows and festivals, moments together, with family and friends.“

Exploring fry bread through this story makes a connection between a cultural symbol and Native American families. This can be used in a classroom to learn about cultures and the importance of embracing our differences.

Such a cute, meaningful book that will engage children of all ages. This book is a cross-cultural exploration of a favorite food and creating memories. Relating this book to history, children learn about rich diversity of Native Americans culture.

I tried the recipe on the back of the bag from King Arthur Baking Company‘s ‘cinnamon sweet bits‘: a cinnamon bread. It‘s yeasted and the recipe is written for a white bread, but I turned it into a wheat bread and of course, cut down on the sugar. The cinnamon bits are really good. Also, I love these silicone baking mats! I didn‘t know that they had the logo on them as well.

My KAF order came in! I‘m excited to try the 6 grain blend in the next round of bread I make. Husband picked out the cinnamon bits to try…I‘ll try the recipe on the back of the bag first. A word on the liners…silicone is a baker‘s best friend! These are a game changer. And the boiled cider…my friends, you simply can‘t live without it. It‘s worth the money! I can‘t wait to visit Vermont and go to the KAF store one day.

I‘ve been feeding my sour starter from class and seem to be narrowing in on proportions. Today is chocolate sourdough, a hit with the family.
