I liked this, but didn't love it. While it was atmospheric and the remote setting was like its own character, ultimately I wanted a little more than what we got. When the village's men are taken by the sea, the women must step up to ensure their people can carry on living. Add to it men who just can't imagine women will do just fine on their own and considering those with different customs as witches, well...it all makes me a little stabby. ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick As you would expect from a society without many men of a marriageable age, there is a little bit of sapphic love here.

What I learned: That Salem, MA wasn't the only place where witches were hunted. I don't know why I assumed it was just a puritanical USA-thing.

The last two books in the Leviathan trilogy were really entertaining. Once again the creativity with the beasties and reimagining of WWI was impressive. And the conclusion was quite satisfying 📰

mandarchy I read this and the Hunger Games around the same time and I was so much more satisfied by this series. It's seriously underrated. 2y

Such a sweet and lovely story. Found family, awesome kiddos, and cute love story vibes. Talia the gnome was my favorite. 🌱🪴🕳 A great lighter read after the seriousness of “What Storm.” Also, the #audio narrator was excellent and made it even harder to stop listening.

What a lovely book! I enjoyed this deeply felt and raw story of 3 people making there way in the world the best they can through pain, loss, and love. The setting in Trinidad was so interesting and I loved listening to the author read it on #audio . Her voice and accent were gorgeous! #Doublespin @TheAromaofBooks #Booked2022 @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage #Pantone2022 #Cascade @Clwojick
