Pickpick

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. It made me laugh, and cry, had me suspicious of everyone except Balen. I was 100% invested in the main characters. They had me frustrated, begging them to just talk to eachother and be happy.
(I love those idiots)
This gave me everything I enjoy in a fantasy book. The magic and the lore. The court intrigue and arcane assassins. The angst.

10/10 for me. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel

I've slowly been making progress on my first round for #BookishMonopoly
I still need to finish Januaries. I've been enjoying it.

(My ADHD has me book hopping around my ever growing TBR and I've also signed up for a local Book Bingo 😅)

It‘s time for this month‘s #BookishMonopoly! I rolled a 5 and landed on “Literary Classic.” Oh my! There are so many I want to read. These two have been on my Kindle the longest. But there are many more on my bookshelves. Please help me choose! Or name your favorite literary classic!

Ruthiella I would pick Winnie the Pooh! 2mo
Jari-chan I for myself try to read more classics by women and/or BIPOC writers. All we had in school were white men 😅 2mo

Assuming no 5 stars next week- but I‘ll let you know if there are.
I‘ve already ordered one off someone else‘s list that I hadn‘t seen before!
@Cinfhen ♥️

julesG That's only 21 books. So two more 5-star reads in the next nine days. 😁😁 2y
squirrelbrain I still haven‘t got to In Memoriam yet, or Belle Greene, as I‘m sure they‘d have been on my list too! 2y
TrishB @julesG I definitely did that on purpose 😁😁 2y

To Catch an Earl | Kate Bateman

Panpan

I liked the plot: female jewel thief pursued by an Earl sworn to uphold the law; they fall for each other. But I felt it could have easily been 100 pages shorter. The characters were ok. A lot of times their internal musings went on for longer than necessary and I couldn‘t often tell whose voice was whose. I do wish Emmy‘s grandmother would have been in more scenes as she was great.

Mehso-so

I enjoyed Bateman‘s Ruthless Rivals series immensely, but I‘ve been underwhelmed by the Bow Street Bachelors. While this has plenty of snarky banter, there‘s an excessive amount of whiny, angsty internal dialogue from both MCs, much of which felt like filler to make a word count. I would have preferred more of the cat-and-mouse game between the MCs and less of the internal angst. The side characters are great, though.
