I finished it on the banks of the Kern River after coming through the Sequoia Monument and National Forest. I didn‘t like it as much as The Boy in a Suitcase, which was such a twisty ride. But I loved the window into Roma culture in Hungary, the discrimination and challenges they have long faced. And the window into the immigrant backlash in Scandinavia. Will read the whole series!

I‘m so sad that I couldn‘t find the appeal in this European Groundhog day experience. I do not think I will be reading on. It took me forever, I stalled 20% in, finally got a bit caught up in some of the poetic paragraphs but powered through only because I admire y‘all and it‘s due back at the library tomorrow. I feel as trapped as the MC. Happy Red Wine 🍷 Day

#Oct2025 Book93 Note: my wedding anniversary is Nov 19. We will celebrate 37 years?!

ChaoticMissAdventures I really do not like groundhog day type storylines so thank you for taking the dive and assuring me I don't need to read this. And there are going to be 7 volumes of it??? 3w

Loved this! I have Vol II on audio, and await the publication of Vol III next month.

I‘m reading Frankenstein at the same time and there are some intriguing parallels; Tara refers to herself as a monster and I‘m just at the part in Frankenstein where the monster is living in an annex and watching the family next door…. Sound familiar?! 🤔

Henry on his one night camping trip, supposed to be two but I have the lurgy so we came home early.

julesG Feel better soon!!! 🫂 3w
Tamra I‘m anxiously waiting 3 & 4 too! Take care. 💙 3w

Hooked_on_books I loved this book (and volume 2) and can‘t wait for volume 3! I would read it anyway, but am delighted it was nominated then shortlisted for translated lit. Hope you‘re feeling better! 3w
squirrelbrain I‘ve just listened to vol 2 @Hooked_on_books (didn‘t take long - one ironing session and one day‘s commute! 😜) and I loved it too. Feeling a bit better now - just a cold, not COVID, fortunately. 3w
sarahbarnes I‘m very excited for Vol III next month! 1w

What a rollercoaster, albeit a quiet and reflective one with all the ups and downs completely internalized, as Tara lives her own version of Groundhog Day but not because she was a jerk like Bill Murray just because? Will she unravel it? I have the second and I‘m almost afraid to read it #Schrödingerscat

BarbaraBB The series gets better with each book! 1mo

#fridayhappyreadinghour TGIF rosé and salt and vinegar chips to toast the end of a long week that ended with an unexpected canada post strike which means my replacement credit card that was mailed yesterday is considered lost and now I have to call all the people and change my automatic charges FFS

Aims42 Ugh, I‘m sorry to hear about your replacement CC fiasco 😖 1mo
Jess861 This looks wonderful!

UGH to yet another Canada Post strike - so frustrating. I'm so worried about the libraries inter-loan programs as the post changes over the next years. I don't think strikes are helping the cause though.
1mo
mcctrish @Jess861 I think most people were quite supportive with the last one until it went on FOREVER and now here we are less than a year later with another one 🤬 and nothing resolved although they did get more of a raise than teachers did 1mo

mcctrish @Aims42 the bank was so helpful when I called - they felt so bad because they had been using couriers because of the last strike and we were all caught unawares - they let me know all of my contract billings so I didn‘t have to look them up and said they‘d prioritize my delivery so I‘d have the new number quickly to use 1mo
Aims42 @mcctrish Yay for helpful bank employees!! 😍🥰🤗 1mo
Jess861 @mcctrish Right?! I want to be supportive but at the same time I've had enough. Also - times have changed - the postal service cannot make as much money as it used to and they need to see that it just can't operate as it has been - there will be job losses but if we want to keep the post at all there needs to be changes. 1mo

ferskner I don't drink but this looks so elegant I'm wondering what I can use instead of wine, haha! 1mo
mcctrish @ferskner my husband got a great mocktail book for Christmas and he whips up some delightful and delicious drinks that look fancy 1mo
mcctrish @AnnCrystal a total pain ( I changed the CC number for my kindle immediately 🤣) 1mo

This was an interesting and quick read. The book is set on a ship that has travelled to a distant planet. The crew is a mix of human and humanoid and the boom is told in brief interviews with various employees. We soon come to understand that strange objects have been brought on to the ship triggering emotions in both the humans and the humanoids, and raises issues of independence, cognition and emotion. Interesting and thoughtful.

Moving right along!
Preordered Volume III this morning.

Tamra I ordered both 3 & 4 from Blackwells for November delivery, but now I‘m wondering what‘s going to happen if Cockwobble‘s stupid trade war isn‘t resolved re: small packages. 2mo
merelybookish @Tamra Oh! The effects are neverending! 😒I also ordered from Blackwells but am in Canada.( I guess I should order IV.) 2mo
Tamra @merelybookish indeed. Don‘t mess with books! 🤨 2mo
Tamra Our exchange prompted me to check Blackwell‘s site and it looks like *for now* it won‘t be an issue. Btw, thanks for being such terrific neighbor cousins. This too shall pass. (edited) 2mo
