I admire what Ramirez attempted here and am giving it a Pick over a So-so for this aim to give humanity to science history. But I was never transported and inspired; I had too high hopes, perhaps. Yet, she has a great #PieinLit mention and she drops in Perkins mauve color (NF book by Simon Garfield) so there's that. 👇

So, not my personal favorite poetry collection but I grant the poet‘s sense of delight and assuredness in her craft. I sense but couldn‘t access the place/time and pain, or so abstract to my relatability? I appreciate a few of these very much, and recognize my own bridge to cross to get there.

This took too long to get started and near the middle, it made me question what kind of book it wanted to be: scathing political commentary, romance HEA, family drama, PR revolution incitation, all of the above? (Yes, is the answer.) I struggled with motivation to continue in the first third, but I am glad I stuck with it. I learned a lot about Puerto Rico. #EstherAssisting #eBook

In my quest to read everything by Sue Monk Kidd, because I really enjoyed her thoughts about how she came to write The Book of Longings. I set this as #FirstBook2022. Mostly because I had just lifted it off the shelf to fit #WiaN for Mythical Being category. And #ReadICT! But this had problems. This book takes too long to get going and all the talking to the reader stuff and sugar-sentimentality is grating. But chapter 58 is fun and I wrote down a few quotes. And… I admit, my waterworks 💦 kicked in and I might have gotten damp eyes. #whatever #HEA with suicide talk?! I feel played but it is so dang earnest. Too long, could be edited; but maybe not. I am glad to read this. I read half via eBook from the library so I captured some notes in gr through the Kindle app; I checked out the hard cover when the 14 day eBook expired.
