Cuilin To be in that society sounds exhausting!!!! Also if you were a performer can you imagine how distracting it would be with everybody just showing up and leaving whenever. And owning a house in Manhattan big enough to have a ballroom is hard to imagine today. 3d

julieclair @Cuilin @ElizaMarie It seems like the opera was only an excuse to see and be seen, and then gossip about whom you saw and who saw you. So disrespectful to the performers. But I don‘t think these people worried much about disrespecting people who were “beneath” them. 2d
