The Perfect Girl | Gilly Macmillan

Pickpick

Zoe Maisey is a seventeen-year-old musical prodigy with a genius IQ. Three years ago, she was involved in a tragic incident that left three classmates dead. She served her time, and now her mother, Maria, is hiding the past from her new husband and demanding Zoe do the same in order to give Zoe a new beginning. Tonight Zoe is giving a recital that Maria has been planning for months but by the end of the evening, Maria is dead.

EadieB In the aftermath, everyone tries to piece together what happened. We get multiple points of view from Zoe, Aunt Tessa and Sam, her attorney. The book has an interesting plot and well-developed characters but I found Zoe to be unlikeable. The ending was a complete surprise that I didn't see coming. I have read 5 Macmillan books and I like her writing. This was her 3rd book. I'm looking forward to reading The Nanny. 3y

11 year old Charlie Page & Scott Ashby were murdered 20 years ago in Bristol. A dead body is found in the same location. Are the 2 murders linked? Detective John Fletcher needs to know. Cody Swift, friend of the 2 boys, is now a film maker & he has a podcast to help find some answers. The story is told by using his podcast & flashbacks. The secrets from the past link some of the characters.

EadieB The book is a slow start but full of twists and turns which make it hard to put down. The clever ending was a complete surprise. If you like psychological thrillers then you should read this one. 3y

Lucy Harper was 9 years old when her brother vanished in the woods near home. As the only witness, Lucy‘s story of that night became crucial to the police investigation. 30 years on, her brother‘s whereabouts are still unknown. — Now Lucy is a bestselling thriller writer. Her talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring fans.

EadieB But her husband, Dan, has started keeping secrets of his own, and a sudden change of scene forces Lucy to confront some dark, unwelcome memories. Then Dan goes missing and Lucy‘s past and present begin to collide. Did she kill her husband? Would she remember if she did? Lucy Harper is going to tell us the truth. 3y
EadieB Gilly MacMillan never disappoints and this one proves that she is at the top of her writing career. The story is told in past and present timelines and her characters keep our interest until the twisty ending which was a complete surprise to me. If you like thrillers then you will definitely enjoy this one. 3y

What She Knew: A Novel | Gilly Macmillan

Pickpick

Rachel Jenner is walking in a Bristol park with her eight-year-old son, Ben, when he asks if he can run ahead. It's an ordinary request on an ordinary Sunday afternoon, and Rachel has no reason to worry until Ben vanishes. The story is told in two POV, Rachel and the investigator, DI Jim Clemo. The book starts out slow but soon takes off and deals with the pain and panic of having a missing child. In the end the kidnapper was a surprise to me.

EadieB I'm looking forward to reading the next book in The DI Jim Clemo series, The Odd Child. I recommend this book to those who love thrillers. #WhatSheKnew #GillyMacMillan 4y

#BooksAcrossOceans | Day 10 | #MostAnticipated Yet-to-Release Book of 2017 | #OddChildOut by #GillyMacmillan

How well do you know the people you love? Best friends Noah and Abdi have always been inseparable. But when Noah is found floating unconscious in Bristol's Feeder Canal, Abdi can't--or won't--tell anyone what happened. Tragedy strikes and what looked like the simple case of a prank gone wrong soon ignites into a public battle. #TBR

Alytrue Wow - so pretty! 8y
Jess7 Thank you @Alytrue 🎉I recycled my amateur #BulletJournal drawing of #TBR books for the Day 20 #Shelfie of the #ReadingWomenMonth challenge. Just ignore some of the books written by male authors that are drawn on the book case 😜 (edited) 8y

Jess7 @BethM thank you. I drew and colored it a few months ago when I got into the #BulletJournal craze. 😂 8y

Jess7 Thank you @i.read.you.too @Wife @PurpleyPumpkin and @Buddys_Momma 🎉 I'll take any excuse to share it again 😂😜. I do not claim to have any drawing talent, but I had fun making it. #bulletjournal You should try it - it was fun and very relaxing! 8y
christineandbooks So fun to look at! I keep thinking about trying one of these one day... Great job with it! 8y
Jess7 @christineandbooks you should. This bullet journal is the leuchturm 1917. I bought it from Amazon and I love it. I tried to use it as a planner too, but I've slacked on keeping up with that aspect of it. @britt_brooke has a #Bulletjournal for mainly books she reads every month. I think she does this sort of thing each month with the books she is currently reading. You should definitely try it! 8y
Simona 😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏 8y
goodbyefrancie This is amazing! I have a bullet journal and it's still blank because I'm intimidated. 8y
Jess7 Thanks @Simona @ferskner and @goodbyefrancie 🎉 don't be intimidated @goodbyefrancie - just start sketching something out in pencil or with an erasable pen like - I found some good erasable colorful pens at target that I like. Google things for inspiration and just start it. It's a lot of fun! 8y
LauraBrook @goodbyefrancie I do the same thing, all the time! 😳😂 8y
afilipabatista Wow 😳😳 amazing 😍 8y
minkyb A visual pleasure! 8y
britt_brooke @Jess7 @christineandbooks Yep, I use mine specifically for my month-end reading analysis. I meant to use it for more stuff but it's kind of time consuming. I use leuchturn as well. It's great! (edited) 8y

Chrissyreadit @Jess7 I was just admiring this!!! My bullet journal is rather bland. 8y
Jess7 @Chrissyreadit thank you - I hope you get inspired. I found journal prompts on Pinterest and if you search bullet journal bookcase you can find inspiration there! 8y

Now that 2017, a brand #newyear has begun, I'm turning over a new leaf and cracking open all those books I've been leaving as I know the #bookhangover will be horrendous. So ... here's to book No.1 ... #burntpapersky by #gillymacmillan
