Abraham's Boys | Joe Hill
post image
Pickpick

4½ ✨
On my new Vampire kick, I'm looking back on some Vampire stories and seeing them in a new light.

Previously, I didn't know Abraham Van Helsing, so this short story was just a horrific tale of an abusive father and two scared boys.

Now I see this masterful reimagining of what could have been.
Is Van Helsing a monster hunter just trying to protect and teach his offspring, or is he a senile old man, seeing things that never were?

I love when McGuire gives us the in-depth dive into characters we've already been introduced too.

She not only writes epic adventures with well love characters, but she so fluently adds such hard topics that I'm always amazed by her brilliance.

Another dazzling addition to the series.
I feel like I need to re-read them all... again.

These books are never what I expect, but it always blows my mind.
A very satisfying end to a very heart-rending journey.

Hob weaves true magic with her writing. Her poetic, imaginative prose takes you places you've never dreamt of; contiplating situation you'll never face, but truly do though her stories

Enchanted_Bibliophile Going into a darker, more introspective character study with this book makes it much slower than the previous two (which were already slow) so perseverance is the name of the game. Don't try to rush, stick with it I promise you'll be glad you did. Even if it test your tolerance for grimness beyond what you think you can handle. 2mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile The complexity of the character bonds is what really pulled it off for me. Nighteyes, Fool I'm looking at you.
The prolonged revenge quest got a bit much for me, but the character development I got out of it was so worth it. Understanding where Fitz came from - his physical and psychological suffering - made me understand his need for revenge.

Enchanted_Bibliophile How he revenged himself in the end, O Man!
It shows just how much he's learnt and grown and it was just spectacular.

I'm gonna miss these characters, they've become a part of my heart.

The book lost a quarter of a star because the writing is clunky in places, but I loved it and will be continuing the series. I especially liked the historical and pop culture references.
