Persepolis | Marjane Satrapi

Persepolis was the first graphic novel I ever read, and I really enjoyed reading a memoir in this medium. As things get progressively worse in Iran, the Satrapi family goes on an abrupt vacation for three weeks to Spain and Italy. Satrapi depicts the reprieve from the Revolution as a magical carpet ride. #rockinmay #magiccarpetride

Pickpick

I loved reading this retelling of A Thousand and One Nights, so it was an easy pick for #MagicCarpetRide. #RockinMay

This book has a literary connection to the story of Aladdin because of the magical oil lamp that contains the Genie. Also connected by the magic carpet to Butt the Hoopoe because that is how both the ‘hero‘ characters are transported.#rockinmay #magiccarpetride

Cinfhen Great pick! Read this with my son for his freshmen lit class. It was my first(and only) Rushdie! 7y
Cinfhen Great cover!!! 7y

Quentin, Plum, and crew take a #magiccarpetride in the big heist scene that opens the third book in this trilogy.

Are Quentin and his friends pretty despicable in The Magicians? Yes they are. But over the course of the next two books Quentin grows up. They all do. Well, except for Penny. He's pretty much consistently a total jerk.

One of the few series I've read where each book is better than the previous one. If you bailed, consider finishing

xicanti I love the character development in these books. 7y
MidnightBookGirl I had a problem with the pacing of the first book, but the end was when it started getting good... maybe I'll try to finish the series! 7y

Zelma I completely agree and I adore this series. The tv show is its own animal and so different, but I like Penny as a character more on the show. He is insufferable in the books, 7y
Ruri_kaichou That's what I've been hearing about the series! I liked the first book but I was on the fence about continuing. But now I've heard this recommendation several times, so I think I'll keep on with it 7y
CherylDeFranceschi I completely agree. There is s definite progression and character growth that made the series a win. 7y
Cinfhen I've been on the fence about reading this series...but .....maybe..... 7y
Oryx Interesting. I read the first, which was ok, but didn't like it enough to continue the series (mainly because characters so horrible), but maybe I'll reconsider now. 7y
PirateJenny I love this series so much. The show too. And I agree that TV Penny is much more likable. I am so curious who is going on the cover of the tie-in for TML. I know a lot of people complain about tie-in art but I really love the TV covers for these books. It also doesn't hurt that I have Jason Ralph staring at me all day in the office. Note: I am extremely biased about these books. 7y

I have started this book several times, but seem unable to finish it. I don't know why. It's good, and I like the story. Hopefully next month. #rockinmay #magiccarpetride

Cinfhen Me too! It's one book I promised myself I'm going to finish this year! The other book is 7y
PurlSquirrel Me too!!! There is nothing wrong with it that I can pinpoint but I can't seem to stay engaged. 7y
PurlSquirrel Wild was a tough start for me too but as soon as she finally gets going it becomes enthralling and I couldn't put it down. 7y

The Hakawati | Rabih Alameddine

It's been quite a while since I read this, which does feature #magiccarpetride. I liked it a lot, but don't recall too much details now. A family's grandpa, was a hakawati (storyteller), and his old Middle Eastern tales are interwoven in this novel along with stories of this Lebanese family's saga.

LyndseyReads I loved his next book, An Unnecessary Woman. I need to pick this one up! 7y
Cinfhen Sounds good! Thanks for posting 😍 7y
ValerieAndBooks @LyndseyReads I liked The Hakawati better than An Unnecessary Woman (though that was good too). Hope you enjoy it when you get to it! 7y
