I love the StoryGraph and the stats are the best. However, I really hate this stat. I wish I could turn it off. (It looks ok now but by December the number will be much higher.)

Enchanted_Bibliophile Same! I read multiple books at a time, and sometimes I neglect one for months before finally finishing it. And then that stat tells me it took me 2 weeks to finish 1 book 🤯 4d
BookNAround @Enchanted_Bibliophile You can apparently pause books now so that stat won‘t get skewed by a book you abandon and come back to. Not sure how you do it, but I like that it‘s a possibility now. 4d
BarbaraJean Ugh, yes. One thing that has helped me is discovering their option to “pause” a book. I‘ve had several books for a class that we‘ll read one chapter and then go 2-3 months without picking it back up. Now I will put a book on pause when I‘m not actively reading it. It‘s helpful to not see 11 books in my currently reading slot, but it helps this statistic as well! 4d
See All 19 Comments
ravenlee @BookNAround it‘s on the same tab where you can “finish,” so now one of the options there is “pause.” 4d
BarbaraJean @BookNAround Hahaha… great minds think alike! Apparently you commented while I was typing 😆 The option is in the same drop-down as the “currently reading” and “read” (etc.) options. Then you can just change it back to “currently reading” when you want to pick it back up. 4d
Sace @BookNAround I do take advantage of the pause feature, but my reading habits just makes it look like I take forever to read. I probably shouldn‘t read so many books at once AND I should make more time for reading. 4d
Enchanted_Bibliophile Thanks @BookNAround , I'll look into this as an option and hopefully get my stats more in-line 4d
5feet.of.fury As someone who was doing up until recently a bunch of chapter a day reads… I completely understand 😂😂 each A Song of Ice and Fire book took 2 and a half months 😭 completely skewed my stat 4d
Butterfinger I am like you, Sace, I read multiple books at the same time. And, it has also been bothering me because it doesn't feel like a week. 4d
Hooked_on_books I really dislike this stat as well, even with the pause option. I was thinking of reaching out to them to see if there‘s a way to opt out of it. 4d
Sace @Hooked_on_books I reached out to them when it first came out. At the time they said there were no plans to have a toggle off button. Maybe if enough people request it? 4d
Sace @Butterfinger and @5feet.of.fury I think my brain can‘t handle any sort of reading for quantity and/or speed. I then start picking books for how fast I can‘t read them (so I can say I read more books or read books faster). I am comfortable with my slow pace and trying to read more complex books, but I don‘t like to be reminded of my slow pace 😂 4d
vlwelser Same. As a multibook reader this stat looks really gross by the end of the year 4d
Lindy Sara, this stat gave me pause during the first six months that I was using Storygraph, because I finish one or two books every day. But I have now embraced it as the reality of reading multiple books at one time. 3d
Sace @Lindy I don‘t read fast enough to finish a book or two every day 😂 3d
Lindy @Sace But I have the same stat as you in StoryGraph: average time for me to finish a book is 7 days. 2d
Bookzombie This doesn‘t display for me, but that‘s probably because I don‘t add my currently reading or mark a start date when I add books. Obviously not helpful if you want to do that. Right now now, I think if I did do that, my number would bother me too. 2d
Sace @Lindy touché but at the same time I know that my chapter a day reading of Villette will hurt that number ?. 2d
Sace @Bookzombie exactly. And I do like to keep track of when I start and finish but I do it for the memories, not as some sort of speed test. 2d

#SundayFunday @BookmarkTavern

First I walk around looking at my bookshelves and sigh dramatically. Then I pick up a few books, read a few pages and lounge on the couch consumed by ennui. Sometimes I‘ll scroll through Litsy looking for inspiration. Or I‘ll avoid looking at my bookshelves because I feel guilty. I‘ll look over my TBR and wonder what the purpose of it even is anymore. And then finally some book appeals and I‘m reading again.

rabbitprincess I relate so hard to those first two sentences especially 😅 5d

My engagement with this selection for the #furrowedmiddlebrowclub was up and down. I struggled to get into it. I was delighted with the book with a book. I often fell asleep while reading after that point. Then it picked up again with young Addie‘s diary. It was indeed too long and I think it could have been executed better or at least could have gotten some editing. The structure was weird to me.

Ruthiella I think it would have worked better for me if the Bastard of Pinsk had been shorter or broken up throughout the narrative. But here‘s to the next title; may it be more enjoyable for us! 🤞 6d
LeahBergen @Ruthiella I was wishing that the novel had been interspersed throughout the narrative, too! 6d

Sace @Librarybelle I probably won‘t be done in time for the discussion but I‘ll definitely finish the book! 1w
Librarybelle No worries, @Sace ! If I had been a bit better at planning out, I would not have ordered the books by most voted but rather by length and had this one for a longer month. 1w
MaGoose @Sace It's been forever since I read Jane Eyre. I'll have to do that again. After I read Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter, which I read in high school and then again in my later 40s. Enjoyed it so much more the second around 1w
Sace @MaGoose eventually I want to go back and read all those classics I had as high school required reading. I suspect I will enjoy them much more as an adult. 6d
Sace @Librarybelle I was not planning to read the March book (since I don‘t already own it) so I don‘t mind Villette needing more time. 6d
MaGoose @Sace I also want to read Hawthorne's House of Seven Gables and Marble Faun again. Also, Treasure Island and Kidnapped. Someday....😆 6d
Sace @MaGoose those are on my list too! 6d
MaGoose @Sace I was once to the real house of seven gables in Salem, MA, way back in 1976!!! I can't believe it was that long ago. I'd like to take a trip to that part of New England. 💓 Maybe in 2026, when it will be 50 years since the last time. 6d

quietlycuriouskate @Bookwormjillk ? I'm struggling to get my head around the fact someone actually designed that and someone else said, "yep, that's what we're looking for." Ruthiella @quietlycuriouskate I feel like with these books the publisher knew they had their audience and didn‘t necessarily always put in much effort in either the writing or the covers. For me at age 10, just the sight of those yellow spines set me salivating! (edited) 2w

4.75/5⭐️ (Close to excellent)

Dina is asked to protect a race that is victim to what amounts to ethnic cleansing.

The full-cast, graphic audio accounts for much or the excellence of this #audiobook, but the story/premise/world is also excellent. I love the characters. While the first two books felt almost like stand alones, this book ends up making connections from previous ones and ends with a tease of the next.

I don‘t know if #recommendsday is still a thing here, but I sure could use some recommendations. I‘ve been reading the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews and really liking it. I‘m wondering if any #Littens have other urban fantasy suggestions. The fewer vampires the better (if that even exists.)

Scochrane26 I just read A Touch of Darkness, which I think is considered urban fantasy. If you don‘t mind some spice that‘s more on erotica side, it was good. 1mo
Sace It sounds interesting! Thanks! 1mo
audraelizabeth You could try the mercy thompson series. 1mo
See All 22 Comments
Leniverse I second the Mercy Thompson series. There are some vampires there, but they are side characters. Also "Rivers of London". I don't recall any vampires in those, and they are amazing on audio if that's your thing at all. 1mo
Luke-XVX I‘m currently reading the 1st book in the Sandman Slim series, only 60 pages in and no vampires so far…. 1mo
5feet.of.fury Ilona Andrews has been some of my favorite urban fantasy, if you haven‘t read Burn for Me I‘d suggest that! 1mo
5feet.of.fury And I‘ll add another rec for Mercy Thompson, I‘m not caught up, but I keep meaning to get back to it, loved the early books! 1mo
Sace @Leniverse I‘ve had the Rivers of London on my shelf forever! @audraelizabeth Thanks! And my library has it available on audio! 1mo
Sace @5feet.of.fury Burn For Me recently caught my attention. Thanks! 1mo
Sace @Luke-XVX Intriguing! 1mo
wanderinglynn Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series is one of my faves. I also love the Mercy Thompson series & the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs (1st books Moon Called/Cry Wolf), the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne (Hounded), Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (Dead Until Dark), Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow (Working for the Devil), Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill (Some Girls Bite) 1mo
wanderinglynn Ghost Hunters Mystery by Victoria Laurie (What‘s a Ghoul to do?), Southern Witch series by Kimberly Frost (Would Be Witch), World of the Lupe by Eileen Wilkes (Tempting Danger) - I have more (this is my favorite fantasy sub-genre). 😀 1mo
Sace @wanderinglynn the Iron Druid and the Southern Witch series sound good! Thanks! 1mo
MeganAnn Echoing all the love for the Mercy Thompson series! I‘m hoping to do a reread of that series sometime later this year. Also one of my favorites is the Hollows series by Kim Harrison (book 1 tagged). It does have some vampires but our main character Rachel is a witch and the world is filled with all kinds of magical creatures including pixies (Jenks, her pixie friend is my favorite), demons, werewolves, elves, etc… 1mo
MeganAnn Another of my favorites is The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon. No vampires. Shannon creates such a richly detailed & unique alternate London that I find fascinating. Definitely read the author‘s revised 10th anniversary editions released last year as she went through & revised the text to make it the story she wanted to write but wasn‘t a good enough writer to pull off at 19 when it was originally published. 1mo
MeganAnn @wanderinglynn screenshotting your list so I can look for all the ones I haven‘t read yet! Urban fantasy used to be a favorite genre of mine as well and I‘ve been itching to get back into it recently. 1mo
Sace @MeganAnn thanks for the suggestions! 1mo
willaful I really enjoyed C.E. Murphy's series that begins with Heart of Stone. 1mo
wanderinglynn @MeganAnn totally agree on Kim Harrison‘s Hollows series. And I‘m adding Samantha Shannon to my TBR. 👍🏻 1mo
CoffeeK8 I‘ll second mercy Thomas and the other Ilona Andrews. But I also want to recommend K.M. Shea‘s Magiford Series 1mo

I read this one for my January #bookspin (3). I had read the first two in the trilogy about 2 years ago, but the second book was a real “pan”. While I‘m glad I finished the series, this one was just barely a so-so. I don‘t like the characters being separated because it made a disjointed story for me. I liked some of the plot lines better than others. By the end I was tired of the book.

I‘m rethinking my rating system since StoryGraph (and most people) use a five star rating. I‘ve gone from C.A.P.E to C.A.R.P.E. The “R” being for readability (font choice and size, complexity, good wordy or bad wordy). Obviously had to change my reading journal page too 😂

Sace @julieclair we were just watching random videos mainly about fantasy books (his choice). He really like Andrew Watson (I think that was his name. ) 1mo

I go back to work today. Gone are the days of almost unlimited reading time. Yet I still decided to start a bunch of new books over the last two days 🤣

Mehso-so

2.25/4 ⭐️ (the lower end between ok and good)

Started with the audiobook but finished up with the kindle edition. Lord Wimsey is one to run on. What? The antisemitism and racial slurs make it hard to say I liked the book, but it I did enjoy the mystery and the wrap up. I might even give more Lord Wimsey books a try. I‘m glad this author was chosen for #authoramonth.

#LitsyAtoZ #LetterW

tpixie I‘m about 16% in on my kindle. I agree, it‘s very anti- Semitic, which makes it difficult to read. Sadly, I am reminded of the antisemitism of Sally Rooney (Intermezzo), Percival Everett (James) & other authors who have recommended banning Jewish books & authors & have refused to have their books translated into Hebrew or sent to Israel. My heart goes out to both Jews & Palestinians. I am against banning books of all kind for any reason. 2mo

3.5/4⭐️ (between very good and excellent)

I love the premise of this book and I flew through it, however I suspect I would have enjoyed it even more if I knew more about Japanese cuisine. The food descriptions meant nothing to me. The human stories resonated though.

Plot and Engagement: 4 (excellent) Character and Atmosphere: 3 (very good)

Many thanks to @swynn for the layout inspiration! I copied it exactly 😂.

Here are my two books for #bookspin hosted by @TheAromaofBooks

3-Part of a trilogy (I read the first two in 2023 and 2024)

17-Library (it‘s on hold right now but should be in next week)

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! That trilogy has actually been on my shelf for quite some time!! 2mo

I‘m ringing in the New Year with the January #AuthorAMonth hosted by @Soubhiville. I‘m listening and reading the kindle edition. I‘m loving the narrator on the audio, but some of the attitudes of the 1920s (when the book was first published) are a little jarring. Still, I think I‘m going to enjoy this.

Soubhiville My library has this one too so I may give it a try if I have time this month. Hope you‘ll like it! 2mo

I‘m not starting another book until tomorrow so my reading for 2024 is officially in the books (heh). I credit my return to Litsy for the increase of my reading from 2023 to 2024. I hope 2025 will be filled with wonderful books!

Clean Sweep | Ilona Andrews

3/4⭐️ (Very Good)
This is my first work by Ilona Andrews. I enjoyed the quick pace and the fact that it can be read on its own despite being a part of a series. I really liked this version of vampires and werewolves and the premise of inns and innkeepers. I will most likely give the next book a try.

Highest marks for Plot/pacing and engagement. Average marks for characters and atmosphere.

I‘m getting pretty excited about the #LitsyAtoZ challenge that @Texreader is hosting. I decided to make a place for it in my 2025 reading journal. Some of the books I‘m reading for buddy reads (such as the #LiteraryCrew, #AuthorAMonth and #HitchToScreen) will give me a boost for few letters like Q and W.

@Soubhiville #authoramonth

My guess is most people have already read this one since it‘s the first Peter Wimsey, but I thought I‘d share since it‘s such a great price. I also had the option of adding audible narration for $1.99.

CatLass007 I got my copy from Audible for $1.37 including tax this past Thursday. And this will be my first Dorothy Sayers! That‘s why I really like #AuthorAMonth, I read several new-to-me authors in 2024, some of whom are now must-reads. I look forward to more of the same in 2025! 2mo
Bookwormjillk I haven‘t read it. Thanks! 2mo

The best thing about my impulsive nature and Litsy buddy reads is that I read books I probably wouldn‘t have. I‘m glad I read this for #HitchToScreen. Thanks for organizing @JenlovesJT47 !

I don‘t know if this is considered a thriller. It‘s definitely psychological and creepy.

Character and Plot received the highest scores on my C. A. P. E. rating system.

2.5/4⭐️ (somewhere between “fine” and “very good”)

Dikembe‘s story was my main interest. I didn‘t really care that much about Lowra (though I was glad she found peace). Oddly this book both felt a little longish and rushed. I have no idea how to explain that. I want a sequel in which Caroline‘s story is told.

On my C.A.P.E scale this book got the lowest marks for Characters and Atmosphere. Lowra brought down the Character marks.

I‘m doing something a little different for #bookspin in 2025. I‘m such a mood reader that I don‘t really want to lock into any titles and my 2024 perpetual list didn‘t really excite me. So I came up with 20 prompts and created a spread in my reading journal. I‘m excited for the new reading year! Thanks for keeping up the spin @TheAromaofBooks !

willaful how pretty! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I love it!!! 2mo
DogMomIrene I like how you pasted printed out pages into your journal. I bought a lined journal because I really like tidy lists, but maybe I‘ll do the print and paste thing for spreads where lines would get in the way. And I‘m guessing the extra layer makes pen bleeding even less of an issue🙌🏼 2mo

Sace @DogMomIrene and there are so many font options when you print and paste! I‘m not very good at lettering. 😂 2mo
DogMomIrene @Sace Ohhh, that‘s a good point too. I‘m terrible at fancy lettering too. I could make graphics in Canva and print them as pdfs. Okay, now I‘m officially happy that I haven‘t started my 2025 reading journal because I‘m going to be mulling over more ideas that are possible😊 2mo
GinaKButler Your washi tape is so pretty! 😍 2mo
Sace @DogMomIrene I‘ve also seen some folks on YouTube printing their graphics on sticker paper as well. 2mo
