Day 6 - #makeyourvotecount
Election Day reminds me of my political career:
I was a write-in candidate in 1998 for borough council in my home town. Here I am teaching voters how to write-in my name. I won the election with 180 write-in votes and beat my opponent who was on the ballot by 10 votes. I went on and won elections in 2001 and 2005. I served a total of 12 years. I also became the first woman borough council President in my borough.

EadieB @vkois88 I got involved because of the dishonest people involved. I went door to door and eventually got rid of the ones who were not following the law and then got honest people elected. I called it ‘educating the voter.‘ (edited) 6y

EadieB @OrangeMooseReads I worked for the taxpayers and nobody got favors. Some people were not too happy because they thought they were special and wanted their own way. (edited) 6y

EadieB @OrangeMooseReads Sad to say it is not the reality. Politicians lie and then the voter gets confused and ends up not knowing who to vote for. I found that very frustrating! (edited) 6y

EadieB @ravenlee Thanks! In the beginning I was offered positions on the council if I voted along with them and I told them that I don‘t need a position, I have my own mind and I never listened to my dad and why would I listen to them. @OrangeMooseReads (edited) 6y

EadieB @arubabookwoman It was not easy to go against their dishonest policies and finally had to leave because my husband and I made a pact to quit everything we were doing and concentrate on our lives as people don‘t always appreciate what you do. He had a hard time when they would lie about me in the newspapers in order to get rid of me so they could continue their dishonest ways. (edited) 6y
arubabookwoman That's awful, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. The lies and dishonest attacks (instead of facts and real issues) may be why many good people choose not to go into politics. 6y
EadieB @arubabookwoman I‘m sure it is. I went to the newspaper and told them to check their facts before they print the letters they received about me. I told them the guy who wrote the lies was campaigning in their paper in order to gain my seat and that they were printing lies in order to sell newspapers. They said that they would not print anymore of his letters. Politics is such a dirty business. (edited) 6y
