Reading this book is like taking a slow, meandering walk through a foggy park...creepy and dreamlike ? Nathan and his sister Rachel are being taken care of by a man they call "The Moth" while their parents are mysteriously away during WW2. Another man, "The Darter", enlists Nathan's help in transporting race dogs illegally through London at night. But as Nathan reflects back on this time in his life he realizes not everything was as it seemed.

Berenice is Egeaus‘s bride, but not someone he would like to #meetmeinthedark. She has a debilitating disfiguring disease that eventually kills her, but before her death Egeaus becomes fixated on her death, which are becoming more and more prominent. Soon after her death and burial, he learns that she has risen from the grave and left him a gift—that of her ghoulish teeth.
