Letora Oh wow! And that was a classroom favorite when I taught! 2d
rustoryhuf I‘ve loved this book for years. Used to read it during library story times in the 80s. A classic 2d
TheAromaofBooks Thanks for sharing - that article was a bit of a wild ride. I had no idea how Margaret Wise Brown died?! Crazy times. 2d

Susanita Fascinating! 1d
GingerAntics That seems so odd, but at the same time I understand it. Sadly, I think I was taught first grade by a lady like that NYPL librarian. lol It‘s amazing how prevalent some of these ideas still are. 1d
Bette Wow! 😳 That's power for ya... 1d

-PLEASE READ/IMPORTANT MORAL-
I feel like I was too abrupt on my last post/review of this book so since I can't repost stuff on Litsy I screenshotted this quote from @WJCintron who also read Sulwe. Even though I didn't like the story, I do love the message; it is an important one. You are beautiful just the way you were born and created. No matter what skin color or race!

I just finished this beautiful book!
I think all children should read/listen to it. Even adults! It teaches in a simple way, with beautiful images & a magical story, how we should LOVE & ACCEPT one another. We ARE ALL beautiful: all skin tones/cultures/race/beliefs/age/body type/healthy/handicapped/wealthy or not... The world is aching/TOGETHER we can heal it!

“Dark and beautiful, bright and strong“
-LOVE it!!

“You can‘t rely on what you look like to make you feel beautiful; real beauty comes from your mind and your heart. It begins with how you see yourself and not how others see you.”
-Such a beautiful & important message!

-UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT-
I enjoy Lupita Nyong'o's work as an actress, but I did not enjoy this. I do like the moral of being proud of one's own skin color and standing against bullying and racism, especially being directed towards children of color. I do see some potential here, as there are fantasy elements implied into it, but I felt like it was conveyed in the most predictable of ways. I know 8-yo me would've loved it though. #readharder

Such a cute book with beautiful illustrations and colors it's great to see a kid's book inspire children especially children of color to love the skin they are born with and see the good within. #books#kidsbookswelove #kidsbooks #illustration #libby #libbyapp #libbylibraryapp #short #shortbook #loveyourskin #loveyourself #diversekidsbooks #lupitanyongo #fiction #lifelessons #bookstagram #ireadthisbookonbreak #readinonesitting
