I don't know why I “so-so“ 'd this book, but... I decided to start the Peacock TV series as a good distraction while I try to recuperate from COVID. I feel better, then worse, then better. It's rather frustrating.

I could have sworn that I posted this when I listened to this. But anyway, I listened to the Audible version of it. I loved the production of it! It was great!

The reluctant reader | Aidan Chambers

Hey guys,

As part of my tutoring business I am starting up a "reluctant readers" book club which will look at a book a month and their film/tv adaptations. I'm looking for books for the next 3 months appropriate for the above age groups. For October I'm feeling "horror-y" but I'm open to any and all suggestions! I'd especially love books that touch on themes my kids will really be able to engage with.

Thanks!

AbigailJaneBlog To clarify: these don't have to be novels! I'm happy with non-fic, poetry, comics/GN's 4mo
dylanisreading For horror-y middle grade, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz (a classic) paired with the 2019 adaptation of the same name, which is good. There's also the Goosebumps books and their TV adaptation. 4mo
AbigailJaneBlog @dylanisreading that's amazing, thank you! I really don't do horror so I'm a little out of the loop 😅 4mo

dylanisreading @AbigailJaneBlog No problem! For horror for your group 2, I'd recommend There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins and its Netflix adaptation (though, disclaimer, I haven't watched the movie yet 🤣). I'll let you know if any other horror pairings occur to me. 4mo
AbigailJaneBlog @dylanisreading yes that one came up in my research, thank you! 4mo
WJCintron I would love to be a part of it. I LOVE reading books with film adaptations since I‘m also a screenwriter & filmmaker. Keep me posted! 😃🙌 4mo
AbigailJaneBlog @WJCintron this was for my tutees, but I would definitely be up for hosting something like this. I know there is a #NovelWatchingCrew somewhere around here! 4mo
WJCintron @AbigailJaneBlog Cool! 😃 If you ever do, let me know. 👍😊 4mo

Finished this one today while running errands. I loved this book. It was super cute. I am looking forward to re-visiting the Prime show (I remember I absolutely loved it) - Pick of Carwash :)

Butterfinger You don't have to tag me anymore. I'm rarely on Litsy and have not been keeping up with NWC. 8mo

I am so surprised at how sad this book made me feel. Now to find some sort of movie adaptation (any suggestions?)

AkashaVampie I'm not sure where to look but I do know they have a few different ones... I believe there is one where a man turns into a woman (or it could be the other way around). 11mo

This is going to be my next #AudioCommute / #AudioCleaning / #AudioOrganizing book. I might get to the rest of my #ToDoList but... I am gonna take a quick break first (and its too cold to be outside or near the mudroom)

So, this book was very short, so it was easy to get through. But I really didn't enjoy it. I am not the right audience for this book. I haven't seen the movie in forever, so I have it on right now for background noise. #BookToMovie

HollyBolly I read this after seeing the movie a while ago while I was in high school or maybe college. Thus is one of those rare instances where the movie was better. 12mo
ElizaMarie @HollyBolly YES! I rarely say that the movie was better, but this one is definitely the case! 12mo

I‘m really not enjoying this one. She is too awkward teen for me. Maybe I‘m too old for this one. Seriously thinking to DNF it but I‘m about 40% in

jb72 I find it awkward. I‘m definitely not the intended reader. I‘ll finish it since it seems to be a quick read. 12mo
mollyrotondo I read this one when I was a teenager and struggled with it then lol this is definitely a more entertaining movie than read. 12mo
ElizaMarie @DGRachel - sorry the phone had bad service so it posted this a billion times! I might end up DNFing it. It‘a not too long so I might be able to breeze through it but…. Life‘s too short too! 12mo

ElizaMarie @kamoorephoto - sorry my phone! But yeah I liked the movie. Also in the movie she is less self centered and less whiny 12mo
ElizaMarie @jb72 I have about an hour left. I can muster through an hour. I have some chores to do. SO I can do it that way. I don know if going #AudioCommute for this was the right call. Its read by Anne Hathaway (who I love) but she is really playing up the whiney teenage drama! 12mo
ElizaMarie @mollyrotondo YES! I am thinking this one is a definite - Movie-IS-Better type of thing here. 12mo
jb72 @ElizaMarie I didn‘t care for the movie either. I watched it the other night. But then again I‘m not a fan of Hathaway. I did like the ending of the movie. 12mo
ElizaMarie @jb72 So, its not really my “type“ of media (too light for me!) but.. I remember thinking the movie was cute. Nothing amazing but nothing horrible. I am gonna see if I can find it on one of the streaming platforms and have it on (probably as background noise too!) 12mo
jb72 @ElizaMarie I watched it on Disney Plus. 12mo
ElizaMarie @jb72 I just put it on :) 12mo
