The story was good and I liked the concept. Very fast read. The publication had quite a few typos which irked me. Stuff like getting names wrong even.

This one was weird to me. I feel like I should have liked it more than I did. Honestly, I am a bit disappointed, but it wasn't a bad book. It kept me reading. I'm just left a little sour.

My first time reading through this one and I loved it! I have a hard time with classics, but like nonfiction, I think it makes it easier for me to listen to them.

SRWCF This is my all time favorite book! Check out the movie - you won't be disappointed. 3w
HollyBolly @SRWCF ok. Which one? I image there are many... (or maybe not, I've not looked into it.) 3w
SRWCF @HollyBolly I think there was just one, and it was released in 1984. 3w

Wasn't my favorite of the year, but a decent fantasy. This one did the thing that I struggle with for many fantasy worlds. Why CREATE a world where women are second class citizens? Are authors really that uncreative? But it was still pretty interesting and got me started on my audiobook kick.

Breezed through this one for #DystopianDeccember! I really enjoyed it. Great magic system and dystopian world set near my home town, so that was fun. It left me wanting to read the next one, but after reading some reviews I don't know if I can. This one talks about known abuse between father towards son, and reviews said the next one goes into detail... Not sure I can do that right now. Too close to my job.

This is a dnf. Too many stereotypes and feels the same as so many stories with dwarves.

Deifio I know! I was quite disappointed by it 1mo
HollyBolly @Deifio I may try again at some point, but after reading LotR for the first time this year, it didn't do it for me. 1mo
Deifio Pro tipp, skip the first Shannara book if you haven't read that already 😉 1mo
See All 6 Comments
HollyBolly @Deifio I actually haven't had Shannara on my radar at all. I think I saw the first episode of the netflix show and said nope. Maybe if I was 15 years younger. 1mo
Deifio The show wasn't that good. But that might be the source material. It's very close to LotR. But after that first trilogy it's way better. I really liked the Word and Void trilogy. The world of Shannara is really worth checking out, just avoid the first trilogy (publication wise) 😅 1mo

I can't stand when writers do this. So many epic fantasy books are set in a place where women are still second class citizens. The Name of the Wind was the same way. Come on, writers! Be more creative! These worlds aren't real. Have more imagination!

Every single book in this series has ended on a cliffhanger, which I think is a little cheap. It also discourages me to read when I know I will just have to buy the next book after this one and the series isn't even finished yet! This is a DNF. Maybe I will come back to it when I am in the mood for some cliff hangers...
