Definite pick. The authors state that they wanted to created a space opera that focused on what could happen in between now and when humans are truly roaming the galaxy. I like how this reflected in the technology. The characters were enjoyable and some of them grew on me as the book went on. There were many aspects of the plot that I was not expecting. I had a hard time after about 400 pages with finishing it just because it seemed a bit long.

kwmg40 I love this series! The TV adaptation is excellent too. 8mo

Has anyone tried www.paperbackswap.com ? Just curious if it is worth it to try?

megnews I used to do it and it was great. 8mo
Bookwormjillk I like it, but you have to wait a while for newer books. 8mo
HollyBolly @Bookwormjillk Ok. That doesn't bother me. I prefer paperbacks over hardbacks so I usually don't get new releases. 8mo

My first time reading through this one and I loved it! I have a hard time with classics, but like nonfiction, I think it makes it easier for me to listen to them.

Wasn't my favorite of the year, but a decent fantasy. This one did the thing that I struggle with for many fantasy worlds. Why CREATE a world where women are second class citizens? Are authors really that uncreative? But it was still pretty interesting and got me started on my audiobook kick.

Breezed through this one for #DystopianDeccember! I really enjoyed it. Great magic system and dystopian world set near my home town, so that was fun. It left me wanting to read the next one, but after reading some reviews I don't know if I can. This one talks about known abuse between father towards son, and reviews said the next one goes into detail... Not sure I can do that right now. Too close to my job.

This is a dnf. Too many stereotypes and feels the same as so many stories with dwarves.

Deifio I know! I was quite disappointed by it 10mo
HollyBolly @Deifio I may try again at some point, but after reading LotR for the first time this year, it didn't do it for me. 10mo
Deifio Pro tipp, skip the first Shannara book if you haven't read that already 😉 10mo

HollyBolly @Deifio I actually haven't had Shannara on my radar at all. I think I saw the first episode of the netflix show and said nope. Maybe if I was 15 years younger. 10mo
Deifio The show wasn't that good. But that might be the source material. It's very close to LotR. But after that first trilogy it's way better. I really liked the Word and Void trilogy. The world of Shannara is really worth checking out, just avoid the first trilogy (publication wise) 😅 10mo

I can't stand when writers do this. So many epic fantasy books are set in a place where women are still second class citizens. The Name of the Wind was the same way. Come on, writers! Be more creative! These worlds aren't real. Have more imagination!
