How to Hang a Witch | Adriana Mather

Despite taking me way longer than it should have to finish this, (thanks to lack of reading time), this was SO good, if not nearly perfect. Witches, ghost, witchcraft, history, complex characters....oh, where to start! Love how the author was inspired by her own family history, too. Also, yet another ghost ends up becoming one of my”book boyfriends”. Guess I have a “thing” for literary ghosts 😂

I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem | Maryse Conde, Richard Philcox

Pickpick

Tituba was born on a slave ship after her black African mother, Abena, is raped by a British sailor. Abena is ultimately executed by hanging. Tituba is adopted by Mama Yaya who teaches her voodoo. A slave, John Indian, takes her to live with him in Salem, MA. It‘s 1692 and the Salem witch trials have begun. She is imprisoned as a witch but manages to escape. I won‘t reveal what happens next because that would be a massive spoiler. ⚠️ Explicit

OnlyYoo Wow this sounds so interesting! Stacked 6d
suvata @OnlyYoo It definitely was a different kind of story but I found it very interesting. 6d

Very easy read. Predictable, light, and fun. Not in my list of favorites, but I'd for sure go for another book from her when looking for a "cozy" mystery to speed through.

I‘m totally feeling this bookmark tonight! “How To Hang A Witch” is 100 kinds of awesome! Love when the bookmark I pick ends up “matching” my book ♥️

Literary_Siren I loved this book! She‘s an amazing author. I‘ve had Killing November on my TBR for months but haven‘t gotten to it. 2w
Jess_Franzino @Literary_Siren I just ordered “Haunting the Deep “‘and I‘m only 33% through “How to Hang A Witch”. I LOVE how the author draws from her own amazing family history to create works of supernatural fiction. I read she‘s an actress & screenwriter as well. A very fascinating woman in and of herself! 2w
Literary_Siren Absolutely!! I can‘t wait to see what else she comes out with! 2w

A tidy, cozy mystery, with a slightly overused trope but thoroughly enjoyable.

“In These Hellish Meetings”...buddy reading The Witches: Salem, 1692 with my best friend long-distance, wishing he were here and I could buy him a chai latte. #christmas #salem #buddyreads

I would highly recommend this to history junkies and fans of The Crucible. It is beyond informative, recounting the Salem witch trials with close attention to detail and beautiful writing. Whether you‘re reading for pleasure or for a high school lit class, you will appreciate it. It may get boring at times, but the book leaves you feeling more informed of the dark time in history.

I think I have found the source for That Line in the horror movie The Witch: “Dost thou wish to live deliciously?”
71-year-old Amesbury widow Susannah Martin was accused by a man from Salisbury of witchcraft. He said she offered him the devil‘s book to sign so that he would receive “all the delectable things, person, and places that he could imagine”.

Dost thou wish butter? And fine dresses? Dost thou wish to live deliciously? #horror #history

VioletBramble In Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix) the witches have on a few occasions described their satan given powers as delicious. I didn‘t realize that was a witchy thing. 1mo
Carla Another reference! @violetbramble I need to watch Sabrina. I have read the first 2 issues of the comic it is based upon and have enjoyed it so far. (edited) 1mo
