Mrs Dalloway | Virginia Woolf

2½✨

This is the second book by Virginia Woolf that I've tried. And I'm sorry to say I just don't like her writing energy. At points it felt frantic and chaotic and I had to put all my mind-power to work to stay with the story.
I just feel that I've worked way too hard for this little book.

PaperbackPirate I feel the same way! I read The Voyage Out. 😴 1y

Not sure if I'm getting used to Deaver's write style, or if this one was just lacking. But I didn't find it as engaging and suspenseful as the previous three.

It was a pretty decent Crime Fiction, just not what I came to expect from Deaver.

I have to start by saying I LOVE Jesse Vilinsky's narration!
She truly brought the story to life. Would love to get more of her work.

As for the story...
Antsy's is a tough one to tell, but McGuire does it great justice. And as always takes us to a place so wonderfully magical that you wish you could find your door.
I can't wait to see how Antsy will fit into the future of Wayward Children.

Enchanted_Bibliophile @TheSpineView @Andrew65 #SeriesLove2023. Not a completed series ( in fact I hope it never ends), but up to date with the newest publication. 2y
Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 Sometime the worst thing is a when a favourite series ends. Lost a few recently due to the death of some authors. 2y
TheSpineView Oh the wait for the next book! 2y
Clwojick Loved this one so much! 2y

A pretty book about green, kitchen, and hedge witchcraft. It was a little too basic for me, not exactly a complete guide.

4✨. 🎧

As always McGuire takes us through a door to the most magical place you can dream up. I mean who doesn't want unicorns as cattle?

I'm waiting for all theses lost girls to get to Eleanor's Home for Wayward Children, to see how many of them will make it back to their magical worlds.

Two bird-related books checked off prompts. And they‘re both chock-full of great factoids and info on all things birdish. The pandemic connected me to my backyard in new ways. I‘ve always gardened but now I‘m feeding copious numbers of birdies. And taking their pictures. So much fun!

Doty wrote this in response to a lifelong love affair with Whitman, both with his writing and with the man himself. So we learn about both men‘s lives, and where they intersect this becomes the ultimate book about reading books. Doty looks at Whitman‘s writing as a reader, a writer, a teacher of readers, and a teacher of writers. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

IndoorDame I‘m not rushing off to make an academic study of Leaves of Grass now, but reading this has convinced me I want to read the 1855 version before I reread the deathbed edition. #Pantone2023 #Titanite @Clwojick 2y
Clwojick Great job! 2y
psalva Great review! I love Whitman. I‘m currently reading Emminent Outlaws by Christopher Bram, and there‘s a section on Ginsberg‘s “Howl.” One of the things Ginsberg‘s dad (also a poet) wrote about “Howl” was, “…it has not enough glad Whitmanian affirmations.” This makes me want to reread both Whitman and Ginsberg and compare their outlooks. I‘m adding this one to my stack as well :) 2y

IndoorDame @psalva there is nothing to grow your TBR like writers writing about other writers!!! 2y
batsy Ooh, sounds good! 2y
IndoorDame @batsy it really was! I‘m debating whether I need my own copy now that this one is headed back to the library 2y

I enjoyed the first part of the book before the disappearance quite a bit. After there were some jarring (for me) time line jumps and it felt a bit long, so a soft pick for me.
