IriDas I have two autistic children and RFK Jr can just—well, something that‘s not for polite society. My kids are wonderful human beings and they deserve better than a society that already treats them poorly. 2d

ncsufoxes As a mom of Autistic child I see you & get you. Our Autistic son is almost 16. He‘s made our life more interesting. He‘s funny, smart, caring, compassionate, full of animal facts. Our 2 other kids have ADHD. RFK can suck a lemon. This man has no business anywhere near the department of health & human services . I worry about the long term damage that will be done to the Autism community. Luckily we‘re resilient & fierce advocates. 2d

ncsufoxes Also Autism is not a tragedy & we are not broken families. Our kids are people that deserve a full & meaningful life just like anyone else. Also RFK should read the tagged book. Such a great book on the history of Autism & more. (edited) 1d

In 1899, Jeremy is in Rwanda overseeing building a railroad when two lions begin killing the workers (like the Ghost and the Darkness if you‘ve seen the movie or heard about the true story). In 2000, Max, a young woman with Aspbergers, is looking for a plant that could be the basis for a new life-saving drug in the mountains of Rwanda. Their stories are told alternately. And how they are intertwined will come as a complete surprise at the end ⬇️

Texreader and in just a few words. I was pretty impressed. Both stories are very good, especially Max‘s story for me. The description of how Aspbergers affected her was so eye-opening, as was her botanical knowledge. There are some lovable (but realistic) gorillas 🦍 but also roving soldiers of a warlord threatening the people and the gorillas. In Jeremy‘s story, the descriptions of the lions‘ actions can be gross, but his story is good. Recommended. ⬇️ 4w

This ibook s fascinating. The female main character is a scientist in the 2000s with Asperger‘s, so her parts of the story describe how she approaches the world so differently. For example, when she entered a room she only looked at the people‘s feet because faces are too chaotic for her to handle. I find her story so compelling. I‘m not quite into the 1899 part of the story yet but I‘m thinking the male MC may have a mild form of “aspies.” ⬇️

My son is autistic so I nervous going into this but I loved it.
Yes, it‘s heartbreaking and difficult at times (the history of how autistic children were treated is brutal) but it is full of history, science and hope. It is well written, well researched and it genuinely changed my perspective on autism in the best possible way. Important and thought provoking, everyone needs to read this book.
