I am so glad I finally took the time to read this book! There is so much pain and sorrow but also hope and happiness in this book. #ASurvivalStory for sure. Celie witnesses so much and lives through so much…she is a true inspiration. Thanks to @TheBookHippie for leading the #PurpleReadalong !

LocalTXLibrarian I read this one earlier this year and was really surprised at how much I *thought* I knew about this story. It's very dark, but there is a light toward the end. Definietly one of my favorites from this year! 11mo

What an exciting read! I must say, I started this book about 2 months ago; I set it aside after listening to the 1st hour & wasn‘t feeling the love. A few days ago I picked up where I had left off & loved the rest. I think the necessary history and background made it a slow start, but once the shipwreck occurred and the survival story set in…Wow! Loved the reader! I‘m not usually a fan of a strong, emotive reader, but his enthusiasm added a lot!

Librarybelle On my to read list! 1y
dabbe I read this last week and LOVED it! 🤩🤩🤩 1y

What a gorgeous book but so heartbreaking too, particularly as it is based on real testimonies.

Francisco‘s father is arrested on false corruption charges and is imprisoned. In #bolivia families often stay in the prisons too so 17 year old Francisco and his young sister live there with their father.

Thank you so much for sending this to me Barbara - I really appreciate you thinking of me!

squirrelbrain I am using this for #quietya for #booked2023 but, of course, it would also work for #wronglyincarceratedmaincharacter. I have this book instead for that prompt. @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae 2y
Cinfhen This book works for so many prompts!! It really was heartbreaking 💔 2y
BarbaraBB Glad you loved it too. I have been using it for the same prompt and was wondering about the prison prompt. But I do have Carlotta too so thanks for the suggestion! 2y
Librarybelle Yay for all of the prompts! 2y
