#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen
- I completely forgot about a book cub that had moved to one week earlier than usual! So I have to read the Josie Silver for that by Wednesday.... a light and fluffy one for a change to our usual fare!
- After that I‘ll carry on with the Ocean Vuong which I‘m loving...
- On Audio I want to start the John Boyne, and then maybe get to a December Bookclub pick (Erotic stories)... but with my Dad in town... 🤷‍♀️

Cinfhen Oh yay!!! Dad‘s in town 💙💙Enjoy 1d

Almost but not quite!
-Finished My family and other animals. Charming, funny and eccentric in an a lovely oId fashioned way.💕
- Read first chapter of the Ocean Vuong and loving the writing.📚
- finished my re-read of a favorite. Sarah Winman did an awesome job narrating her own novel 🎧
But..
-Didn‘t get to start the Boyne. It will need to go by the wayside for a week, as I completely forgot about a bookclub book this week!

Aimeesue I both read the Vuong and listened to the audiobook. The audio -narrated by Vuong- is absolutely brilliant, if you get a chance to listen to it. 2d

No borders, just a Line! One from my #2020TBR today, I‘ve been meaning to read this 2004 Man Booker winner for ages! I read The Sparsholt Affair this year, and really loved his writing, so hoping for a great read.... 💕

Cinfhen I think @TrishB mentioned wanting to read this book too!! I was meh about 2d
TrishB @Cinfhen I‘ve put this book into hibernation as there was just too much 1980s Tory politics that just resonated too much with today. 2d

I love @4thhouseontheleft ‘s idea of making a list of all the books you wish you‘d got to in 2019 from your TBR mountain, and creating a #2020TBR ......
I‘ve created a bookshelf on goodreads with 52 books (one a week) as an optimistic TBR for next year 🤞😊💕📚Lets see how that goes! 😂

I loved this book so much, and found it so haunting. Hannah Kent's writing is beautifully sparse, yet so poetic. I don‘t think I‘ve read another book that made me feel so #frozen and chilled to the bone as I did whilst reading this. It has such an amazing sense of place. Every time I picked up this book, I found myself immediately captivated by it's chilling, lonely and brutal landscape. And Agnes‘s plight was just so heartbreaking 💔❄️

An unseasonably rainy afternoon in SoFLo (my Dad just arrived from England so I‘m blaming him for bringing it with him!)
So we‘ve been drinking a margarita and reading side by side on the patio, watching the rain, and doing cryptic crosswords that he cuts out and saves months worth of, so we can do them together... 💕
A perfect afternoon off.... 🍹🌴☔️📚✏️

Pickpick

#Movember #humannature
Light, breezy and old-fashioned in the best way, this memoir of a family‘s move to Corfu in the 30‘s is just so charming. Part nature writer‘s love letter to an island, part study of the eccentric locals and his family through the eyes of a creature-obsessed 10 yo boy, this book captured my heart. I particularly loved Roger, the old family dog, who is anthropomorphized into a curious little chap and loyal companion to Gerry.

BookNAround I love this series of books. 4d
Cinfhen I had a feeling this book would be your jam, my sweet friend. I started it once but it wasn‘t holding my attention. 4d

#Movember #future Love this book! 💕
As sad as this quote is, I love it. It hits home so much for me. It speaks to me deeply.
With my husband‘s condition, we are so mindful of always feeling like we‘re on borrowed time. So in response, we treasure every day. We feel so lucky to have had the happiest of marriages, we dont sweat the small stuff and we know we are lucky to have the time together that we do. Every day I get to keep him, is a gift.

Cinfhen All my love , Karen 💜💜💜 6d

- I‘m planning on finishing up ‘When God was a Rabbit‘ on Audio, then starting the John Boyne.... both of these are for #pop19...almost done!
- In print, I‘m hoping to finish up the charming ‘My Family and other animals‘ then start ‘On earth we are briefly gorgeous‘ ... it‘s been calling me from my nightstand for too long! 📚💕

Cinfhen How‘s the Boyne??? 1w

- Completed Brideshead Revisited and loved it. Can‘t believe I had never read it. So my jam!

- 2/3 of the way through my re-read of a favorite book. Trying When God was a Rabbit on audio. Unusually the author narrates it herself, but then again she‘s an actress so it makes sense. Really enjoying it.

- 1/3 through my new read (tagged book). This classic NonFic is delightful! Set in Corfu, between the wars, it‘s fab so far.

And done! #Booked2019 finished, and I‘m pretty sure I saved the best until last!

Often called ‘THE Oxford novel‘ and set between the wars, both a setting and time period I adore reading about.... I was completely swept away by this gorgeously written novel. A dash of humor, and a whole lot of melancholy and nostalgia and longing for lost loves, I can‘t believe it took me until now to read this beauty. Loved it! 💕

Freespirit Another one I need to read..thanks for the reminder 2w

What a lovely idea💕
Currently listening to Daisy Jones. Read it when it first came out in print, and loved it. Hosting a bookclub this week so doing a re-listen to the full cast audio this time. Fun!
Just starting the tagged classic. It‘s my last pick for #Booked2019 (a public domain book). I think it‘s going to be totally my jam. I love anything set at Oxford, and England between the wars, is my favorite period to read about. 🤞

Cinfhen Thanks for joining me!!!! I also have an audio and print going!!! And congrats on almost completing #Booked2019 #YoureSoClose 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3w

Faces: Profiles of Dogs | Victoria Sackville-West

Pickpick

Originally published in 1961, this new edition is the perfect gift for dog lovers. Sackville-West‘s writing is charming and funny, and Goehr‘s photos are so soulful, each dog‘s eyes are so engaging.
The descriptions are just so quotable...the gentle-eyed Afghan 'like somebody's elderly Aunt Lavinia, who nourishes a secret passion for the Vicar', or the Labrador, 'dear, solid, faithful lump of a dog!', and that 'docile minion' the Corgi. Perfect!

Aimeesue Vita! Vita! Vita! ❤️ 3w

This is as much a cookbook to curl up in bed with, as it is to cook from. Gorgeous photos, beautifully honest memoir sections with a dose of dark humor, and the kind of recipes you give up a whole day to. They are often real projects, with many homemade components, that will fill your home with amazing aromas, and give so much comfort and joy, in both preparing and eating. I wish I had more time to dedicate to this kind of cooking.... #oneday 😍

I love the BBC podcast ‘Books and Authors -A good Read‘ ..... I just listened to this episode, and now this almost exclusively Fiction reading girl, can‘t wait to read these three Non fiction books! Books about homing pigeons, an Irish walk and the NHS! That‘s what passionate readers talking about books can do....😍📚Who‘d ave thunk it?

Pre-order #bookmail ... don‘t you love it when a book you ordered months ago, arrives unexpectedly! I ordered this when I bought the spring-summer version earlier this year, and I guess being in South FL meant I forgot it was even fall! 🤦‍♀️
Nigel Slater is my favorite writer, and this one is a veggie packed treasure! 💕🥦🌽🌶🍆🥬🥕🥒🥑

A fun month of reading!
Easy favorite was the tagged non-fiction book.... A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read!
No bails, a couple of fantastic cookbooks, and a re-read of ‘Island of Sea Women‘ for a bookclub.
My favorite fiction was ‘Very Nice‘ though the last few pages let it down.

Texreader Nicely done! 2mo
Lindy Lovely mix of reading! 2mo
MrsMalaprop I just finished a book about psychotherapy too. Stacked this one 👍. 2mo

- A recent #BOTM (The Gifted School)
- A re-read for bookclub (going to try Daisy on Audio this time)
- The tagged book & Brideshead Revisited are to tie up #Booked2019
- Curtain & The Little Prince are for #Pop19
- And the bottom 3 are calling to me from my night stand!

4thhouseontheleft I had a hard time getting into the physical copy of Daisy Jones, but am finding the audiobook fantastic! 2mo
WhatWouldJaneDo I just listened to Daisy Jones on audio and it was incredible! The cast is great and you really feel for all the characters. 2mo
marleed I loved this audiobook but had to own the print. TJR places such great lines in the mouths of her characters that I want the print reference. ... it was also fun to reread for nuances once I knew the ending. Dang - I wish I could type more about that. 2mo

3.5 ⭐️ A fun read, with super likable characters with some really funny dialogue. A little bit forgettable of a story, nothing much happens, but these three women are so easy to cheer for, as they navigate romance and friendship.

Imagine if TV show ‘The Affair‘ and Delia Ephron‘s ‘Siracusa‘ had a baby, with more diverse characters (and no murder!) These characters are not ‘Very Nice‘, in fact they are mostly downright awful, but I enjoyed this sharp, satirical, biting novel. Each POV was so full of self-delusion, self-righteousness and self-soothing of their own ego, yet I couldn‘t stop reading. It felt super current, and it was really a lot of fun. Odd ending though.🤷‍♀️

Reggie Lol, thank you for the awesomely done visual equation! 2mo

Super nerdy bookish trivia.... i.e. perfect for me! 🤓

From David Bowie‘s 100 most influential books, to the books Oscar Wilde had in his jail cell, to Bin Laden‘s bookshelf discovered by Navy Seals, to the most picked Desert Island Disc Books.... each list is accompanied by a description of its source. A really fun little nerd fest of a book...

keithmalek I've been wanting to read this, but without getting it online, I can't seem to find it (neither libraries or stores). 2mo

I think this will be in my top 5 for this yr, which for someone who rarely reads Non-Fic, is saying something! I absolutely loved it. I laughed, I was fascinated, I was moved to tears. As Roger Ebert once said about movies, I feel the same about books, they are ‘empathy machines‘. This book was so full of empathy, human spirit, and was written with such warmth. I couldn‘t have loved it more. Can‘t wait to talk about it with my bookclub next year.

Megabooks Totally agree! 2mo

For me, The Handmaids tale is a masterpiece, yet expecting the same from its sequel would only disappoint. This is a very different book. It‘s a page-turning adventure from 3 POVs (2 young women and the familiar Aunt Lydia), replacing Offred‘s inner monologue. I couldn‘t put it down, but I‘m not sure the 2 teen girls were strong enough protagonists. Yet I found Aunt Lydia‘s account soooo compelling. A mixed bag of feelings, but still a good read.

Cinfhen Great review 2mo
