What a gorgeous book but so heartbreaking too, particularly as it is based on real testimonies.

Francisco‘s father is arrested on false corruption charges and is imprisoned. In #bolivia families often stay in the prisons too so 17 year old Francisco and his young sister live there with their father.

13/23 This was our Feb bookclub pick & although I would never usually pick it up (I actively avoid historical fiction & fiction about childbirth) I really enjoyed it- that‘s why I love my bookclub! Great for a discussion around power dynamics & what has/hasn‘t changed since the 1600‘s! Historical fiction set in Australia centered around the stories of two female convicts transported from England and one Aboriginal girl who is taken from her home on the careless whim of another. Their stories are harsh but I found the book so ensnaring I could not even put it down to eat.
