I know we are all exhausted with our country at the moment, and most of the Littens who need to hear this have already unfollowed me, because, while I've tried to keep political stuff to a minimum on my feed, I refuse to ignore people posting lies and fear mongering. However, in the wake of ABC's pathetic suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, I feel the need to state the obvious, though logic and decorum feel increasing futile. Good luck out there, citizens

dabbe I always used to tell my students when they wrote a persuasive piece that the only way they'd get an “A“ was if I couldn't write back with words like “Huh?“ “What?“ “Where's your reason for that?“ and so on. You hit EVERY salient point that needed to be said and did so with absolute precision, holding up the mirror that these people need to see! I hope you post this elsewhere and that it goes viral. TheBookgeekFrau On 9/9 I happened to watch an interview with CK about his upcoming campus tour. I didn't know who was before that. I've since come to learn a lot. The hateful messaging claims didn't jive with the man I saw in the interview so I watched some of his reels on ig. All I saw was a man with some controversial views enjoy respectful, spirited debates with conviction and humor. A lot of the hate messages being shown are very much out of context. 2mo

TieDyeDude @Thebookgeekfrau I'm sure he carefully curated his social media to fit his desired image, and I'm sure he occasionally made some good points. If you have additional context for any of the examples I provided (Paul Pelosi, the Turning Point Watchlist, encouraging the acceptance of gun violence, decrying George Floyd), or an examples of him discouraging his supports from their violent rhetoric, I'd be happy to listen. 2mo

Amiable @TheBookgeekFrau He was a traveling salesman. He wasn‘t interested in a true debate of opposing viewpoints —it was performative showmanship that was scripted, filmed and edited expressly to go viral and make money. Saying that his hate messages were “taken out of context” should really prompt introspection on your part. Because wrapping Bible verses around racism and misogyny doesn‘t make it any less repugnant. 2mo

TheBookgeekFrau @TieDyeDude I'm sure it was curated. But it was interesting. I've mostly been listening to a lot of commentary shows on the 2Way platform (on YouTube). Some of the issues you mentioned were addressed. He's not a hill I'm willing to die on, but he meant a lot to millions of Americans and I needed to see why. And I got it - he was a voice for conservatives when they felt without one. Wish I had something more concrete than that. 2mo

TieDyeDude @TheBookgeekFrau I appreciate your insight. I know I grossly underestimated his influence on conservative America, and you've likely watched more of his videos than I. But what I have seen has been more of the same Trump-ian drivel. Just because he was a young MAGA radical doesn't mean he wasn't promoting the same hate and intolerance. I know people want to hear that rhetoric, especially when it is delivered in a more appealing way, but I don't. 2mo

TieDyeDude @TheBookgeekFrau @CBee Well, for example, the quote on affirmative action is what it is: he intentionally misrepresents the whole notion of the concept by taking these women's words about only being where they are because they were granted A CHANCE to succeed when they would have otherwise been overlooked, and twisting it to say that they do not have the brain power for their jobs and were GIVEN their careers at every step. Is that enough context? 2mo
