Ok, so it's a bit of a stretch, but... this is one of my favorite books. An ode to the mix tape, Rob Sheffield's first wife, and the music and #bands they loved.

caffeinated I enjoyed reading this book as well 2mo

I'm in a major reading slump. I can't think of what to read next, and I can't seem to finish what I start. I'm 50 books behind in this year's reading challenge. But my nephew is about to get a super comfy afghan whether he wants one or not. It's not the first blanket I've started, but I hope it's the first one I finish.

Ruthiella Definitely don‘t get hung up on the numbers! Do you listen to audiobooks while crocheting? 11mo
dabbe The afghan is gorgeous! I agree with @Ruthiella; ignore numbers. Maybe read something light. I usually go to my Peanuts or Mutts comics when I'm in a slump. Hang in there! 💙❄️💙 11mo
IndoorDame Finishing an afghan is major! (Ive never managed 🤣) You‘ll pick up a book that draws you back in soon enough. 11mo

mandarchy @Ruthiella good question! When I have access to Internet, I spend my time catching up on TV and forget to download books. Then when we have outages I kick myself for not getting a book. I'm right now looking at what to watch next and trying to think of something to get in Libby at the same time. This slump is stubborn. 11mo
mandarchy @dabbe I'm doing my best to ignore the numbers. I love Mutts! I just ordered a book by McDonnell for my students as a gift. They love his The Perfectly Messed Up Story 11mo
mandarchy @IndoorDame I have the new Winkler book on hold. I'm hoping Fonzie's voice helps. 11mo
Librarybelle The afghan does look super comfy! 11mo

Little Melba and Her Big Trombone | Katheryn Russell-Brown

This biography tells Melba's story from a third person point of view and in a very fast-paced manner. It provides a short overview, yet full of details, of her childhood and how she began playing. It also is a great book to introduce to students when teaching the important lesson of never giving up and following dreams, even when things get challenging. Melba never gave up on her dreams and is known as one of the greatest musicians of all time!

Pickpick

This biography tells the story of a young musician named Melba Liston. As a young, Black girl, she always loved music and begged her family to buy her a trombone so that she could learn to play. It didn't take long for her to show off her natural talents and she soared into the music business as a successful young musician. However, her talents were not always appreciated due to her race and gender, which challenged Melba, but never stopped her!
