Ok, so it's a bit of a stretch, but... this is one of my favorite books. An ode to the mix tape, Rob Sheffield's first wife, and the music and #bands they loved.
I'm in a major reading slump. I can't think of what to read next, and I can't seem to finish what I start. I'm 50 books behind in this year's reading challenge. But my nephew is about to get a super comfy afghan whether he wants one or not. It's not the first blanket I've started, but I hope it's the first one I finish.

This biography tells Melba's story from a third person point of view and in a very fast-paced manner. It provides a short overview, yet full of details, of her childhood and how she began playing. It also is a great book to introduce to students when teaching the important lesson of never giving up and following dreams, even when things get challenging. Melba never gave up on her dreams and is known as one of the greatest musicians of all time!
This biography tells the story of a young musician named Melba Liston. As a young, Black girl, she always loved music and begged her family to buy her a trombone so that she could learn to play. It didn't take long for her to show off her natural talents and she soared into the music business as a successful young musician. However, her talents were not always appreciated due to her race and gender, which challenged Melba, but never stopped her!

The illustrations and story-telling narrative allow for readers to stay engaged. This book would be a great read-aloud when doing biographies on lots of different people, this sets readers up for creating on and what all needs to be included. The book also offers an afterward for readers to learn more aboulr Melba.
This book is a biography of Melba Doretta Liston and how she decided to play the trombone as a little girl and followed her dream to become a famous trombone player. It is told in the third person and describes not only the positive experiences in her life but also some of the hardships she had to face.
