One of my favorite reads assigned in high school!! 🌻

It‘s gaining a whole new meaning now that I‘m learning about the book‘s namesake: Pygmalion from Greek myth — the one who fell in love with his creation. Gives it a whole Narcissus/Dorian Gray vibe too.

Could also have posted Rebecca and Grapes of Wrath but already posted about those this month. Of Mice and Men had a great impact on 15 year old Andrew!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Great choice!! 3w
Kaila-ann I read this one this year and enjoyed it! 3w

EadieB I own this book and have watched the movie. Enjoyed the Steinbeck Museum in Salinas CA when I visited a few years back. 3w
Andrew65 @EadieB Have you ever read it? 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 No haven't read it but know the characters from the movie. I love his books though as he is a great writer. I've read East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath and Winter of Our Discontent. 3w
Andrew65 @EadieB Only Read this (in school at age 15) and Grapes of Wrath. Loved both so don‘t know why I haven‘t read more. 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 I would probably read Of Mice and Men next as that one and Grapes of Wrath are on the 1001 list. 3w
Andrew65 @EadieB I will have to look at the list at some point and see how many I have read. 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 That would be interesting to see.

Andrew65 @EadieB Oh dear! I do want to read a number of them or already own a number of them but only read 25! 😳 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 That is a good start! There are some very good books but a lot of them you wonder how they got on the list. 3w
Andrew65 @EadieB They also seem to like certain authors. 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 I honestly don't know how they pick them. I guess it must be a panel of people. 3w
Andrew65 @EadieB Same with awards. Often don‘t like awarded books. 3w
EadieB @Andrew65 It's hard to please everyone! So many different genres and tastes! 3w

Pickpick

Difficult to pick just one book for a #classicyouenjoyed but this immediately came to mind. What an important, emotional piece of literature, and how large the ideas that are contained in it. From a purely critical view of the writing itself: It's very sentimental and melodramatic, which makes sense since it was originally published in serialized form. But the narrative drives the reader forward at a steady pace. My interest never flagged.
