#hpnewyear2018

Good Morning! I know we are only 6 days in to 2018 and already craziness has ensued (it never stopped) but I just want remind everyone that we made it through last year. We will make it (swinging and fighting if we need to) through this year! Remember to take time for self care, to take a break, to step away. I learned that last year. Enjoy your weekend and your reading!

#constantvigilance

LiteraryinLawrence Thanks. That‘s important to remember. 💗 6y
TheNextBook @LiteraryinLititz It is! This time last year I was stressed, angry, and really in a bad mental space but I always made time for my Potter and that gives me joy and it reminded me to check in with me to make that me time. It‘s really important. 6y
JSW Thank you for this. I always feel guilty about stepping away for me time, but I cease to function without it. ❤️ 6y

Eggs Good point-it needed to be said 🤗 6y
TheNextBook @JSW we have to remind ourselves to take a break from everything or be consumed by it and that‘s not okay. 6y
TheNextBook @Eggs yes! After 2017 we really need a change but I have a feeling things will get worse before they get better and we need to keep that in mind! 6y

#TuneIntoNovember #day4 #WakeUpCall The incident that happens in this book (which you don't find out the exact details of till near the end!!) is a wake up call for the selfish, self obsessed adults in this novel. If you're not ready for the world to stop revolving around you & for it to start revolving around a child, don't have kids! It's as simple as that. #constantvigilance #madeyeisright

BarbaraBB Sounds like a good read! 6y
Cinfhen Nicely played! So true, unfortunately 😬 6y
bedandabook Never a truer word, although I found the interminable wait to find out what happened at the barbecue so frustrating I almost bailed on this one! 6y

I love this moment. This is Harry at what I consider to be one of his finest moments. He knows how this could end. He knows this is a fight he didn't start but it's one that he has to see to the end. Because he can't abandon the fight!

I love this book. I love this series. This moment when the odd are staked against you and you keep fighting because it's about more than just you.

Nuwanda This was what I needed to see today! Thank you for posting this! ❤️ 7y
TheNextBook @Nuwanda of course!!! Sometimes it's these little reminders that help in many different ways. 7y

It is #internationalwomensday! I'm at work and in red since I didn't take the day off. Grateful for the women who did and for every woman who has ever made a difference and taken a stand. So many amazing women have paved the way and forced change. Let's remember them and continue to fight! #constantvigilance

"Saturday, July 19, 2025."

My son was born in 2008. He would have just had his 17th birthday. Realizing that my son would be a teenager in this book, with its extremely bleak outlook on the future and our current political climate, makes my stomach turn...

rachelm This is loaded on my kindle and I can't believe I haven't started it yet 7y
Stephanie-Anne 😳😳😳yes... 7y
lynneamch 💔 I don't know your situation, but you have my heart. 7y

RanaElizabeth Ya know, the best, most-caring and most-accepting people I've seen in recent years have all been young. While our present and immediate future sucks balls, I have an immense belief in our long-term future. I'm holding onto that. 7y
TheNextBook @rachelm I didnt want to go to work because I became so absorbed with the story. 7y
TheNextBook @Stephanie-Anne it was just very unsettling because I've never had to put a book in context the way I have with this one. I always joke about when he will be 18 and here is a book that shows what the United States in a very frightening way when he would be a teenager! 7y
TheNextBook @lynneamch @Bibliogeekery I'm on edge about everything right now and as good as this book is It's not helping. 7y
TheNextBook @RanaElizabeth the immediate future is bleak but I'm hoping this next generation is taking notes so it wont be like this forever. 😫 7y
Bibliogeekery @TheNextBook I adore that book but can't imagine trading it right now because of the world so I totally hear you ❤️ 7y
Stephanie-Anne My son was also born in 2008, and yes, recent events feel particularly cruel, when for a while, there was hope. I worry what disaster is being set into motion. But like other commenters, I have faith that our younger generations are watching. If nothing else, this mess has revealed the hypocrisy and lingering ills that our sons' generation will rebel against, as younger generations do. 💔 7y
TheNextBook @Stephanie-Anne I'm seeing people fight back and its the only thing inspiring me and giving me hope because this generation sees that! We will persist. #constantvigilance 7y

Bette The news depresses me and then I see something like this...and know there are people out there throwing down. Thank you for this. ❤️️💜 7y
Kerouacthedog @Bette it has to start somewhere. When you step outside of your classroom to see why a student is so angry or crying and they say it's because their parents won't stop crying and praying because there is no home to return to if they lose their status here, it tends to solidify your feelings on the topic. 😏😏 7y
Bette Just reading what you wrote, things are going wrong on so many levels so fast. To say children should not have to be scared only leads to none of us should have to be and on and on. Between being depressed, angry, shocked, part of me is still incredulous that this even happened. Thanks for what you are doing. 7y
Kerouacthedog Just teaching. But thanks for the gratitude! @Bette 😊😊 7y

#allisnotlost and I have my favorite series to keep me grounded. Between ending last year with King's Dark Tower Series and beginning this year with Harry Potter, I've realised how much my books have become a refuge and an inspriration. #constantvigilance

Thank you to everyone who marched yesterday! Seeing the images from around the country and the world yesterday was so inspiring. Now we have to keep things going and make this a movement, not just a day. The Women's March website is encouraging action every 10 days, read details here:
