Truly Madly Guilty
Truly Madly Guilty | Liane Moriarty
If only they'd said no... What if they hadn't gone? That's the question Clementine can't stop asking herself. It was just an ordinary backyard barbeque on a Sunday afternoon. They didn't know their hosts that well. They were friends of friends. They could so easily have said no. But she and her husband Sam said yes, and now they can never change what they did and didn't do that beautiful winter's day. Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One yapping dog. It's a normal weekend in the suburbs. What could possibly go wrong? Once again Liane Moriarty uses her unique, razor-sharp observational skills to sift through the emerging fault lines of seemingly happy families. It was just an ordinary Sunday afternoon... PRAISE FOR LIANE MORIARTY "The mistress of the razor-sharp observation." Kate Morton "Staggeringly brilliant." Sophie Hannah, Daily Mail "Moriarty produces novels that are miracles of structure as well as human insight." Sydney Morning Herald "If you're looking for a novel that will turn you into a compulsive book-finisher... look no further." Oprah.com

Why does Moriarty write books that I don‘t want to read but also can‘t put down? She gives me anxiety! 😅😂 I actually feel guilty, I had things I had to get done, and yet I couldn‘t put this book down! Seriously I tell myself don‘t pick up her books, they stress you out, and here I am again! 😬🤪

ljuliel I haven‘t read this one yet. How‘s it compare to The Husband‘s Secret and Big Little Lies ? 3mo
Ash.on.the.line @ljuliel I may not be the best judge, but it definitely has the same qualities of both, that suspense and a story that connects everyone. All are pretty equal to me. (: 3mo

Fun easy read. Like sitting on your back porch reading in the summer with giant sunglasses on. Very long, but the bouncing between timelines worked. Loved that you didn‘t know what happened at the BBQ until near the end.

These books are always perfect beach reads. Three couples at BBQ experience a tragedy that affect them all differently. Told from different POV‘s, Liane reveals the mystery slowly and really knows how to develop deep and complex characters. I dig it. 👍🏻❤️🙌🏻

Interesting read. I am still not sure how I feel about the characters of Erika and Clementine. Good insight into how an unfortunate event affects so many people and how they all process it differently. I think Vid and Tiffany could have their own book.

This wasn‘t my favorite book by Liane Moriarty. I usually like her stuff, but this just felt so long. It took such a long time to get to the arc and the development was a bit boring. I think the characters were tough to like and in this situation it really made the book feel slower. I did like the idea and the story and the ending, just needed to be shorter, in my opinion.

OriginalCyn620 I feel like a lot of books could be shorter! 😝 Some do seem to take forever to get to the action. 10mo

A weekend without the kids meant a late Sunday breakfast of bacon & eggs followed by hrs laying on the beach reading. The water temp was perfect. Afterwards we shared a bottle of wine with caramelised onion and mushroom risotto that my partner Stew said was in the top 3 meals I‘ve ever cooked for him, an arvo sleep then a harp performance in the bar below my apartment. A wonderful weekend. I live for holidays. I started this on audio but switched.

I needed something easy and Moriarty provides that. The structure of the novel kept me turning the page and one subplot fascinated me - growing up with a mother who hoards. Beyond that the novel was so-so. And it was first TBR read of 2019! (Yay!!)

2019 Book 8: School canceled today for ice! That means it‘s a book-reading, laundry-folding, coffee-drinking, warm-staying kind of day! ❄️❤️

This was a good story but the ending was a little anti-climactic. The characters were frustrating at times; the event at the barbecue wasn‘t what I was expecting.

Thift store book haul! Nine books for $8.32. I may not be supporting the authors but at least I'm supporting local charities. So, I feel good about that, especially the three from the the Catholic church charity shop because they helped me when I desperately needed it a few years ago. The Fear Street books are for my son and Twilight for my daughter.

Not my fav Moriarty, but I still love her characterization and the way people intersect.

The graphic is from this app Bookly...has anyone else used it? I kind of like it but I'm not willing to pay for it.

Mindyrecycles I tried it, but I kept forgetting to track when I was reading and then felt judged by the app. 😂 But it is cool for those who enjoy it. 12mo
Elizabeth2 I use it and I love it! I was an early adopter (I started using it Jan 2018). I think the cost has changed since. I track all of my reading there now. I love being able to see how much time I‘ve spent reading and setting a monthly time goal. It also tells me how many days in a row I‘ve read, which keeps me motivated to not break the streak. I get a reminder every day, at a time that I pre-set, that it‘s reading time. ❤️ 12mo
Heatherfeather @Mindyrecycles oh I hate judgy apps 😂😋. 12mo

Heatherfeather @Elizabeth2 That's awesome! Do you know if there's an audiobook setting behind the pay wall? Because I listen to quite a few books. Trying to determine if the cost is worth it. 12mo
Elizabeth2 @Heatherfeather When you add a book, you can choose to track your progress by pages or percentage. Not sure if that‘s a paid feature or something you already know. I don‘t do audio (can‘t seem to get my brain to pay attention), so I‘m not sure if that helps. When listening to audiobooks, can you see the percentage complete, or only time? Number of pages is a required field though. There‘s no way around that that I know of. 12mo
Heatherfeather @Elizabeth2 ah ok. Thanks!! 12mo
